After 2-3 years of tutorial hell and 2 burnouts I've finally started creating my dream game in UnrealEngine5. Looong journey ahead

Soon I'm going to post kind of monthly devlog showing what I've been doing.Maybe more what I have not done;/ Few other things I started to do,learn, so unfortunately again more in learning phase(procrastination?) than real things done BUT as I said, starting with new UE5.8,DEMO will be done here

How am I doing? Not great. Today,I finally wanted to migrate my map to 5.8 and start the final work on the level design, since I’ve decided that 5.8 will be the version I’ll use to create the demo map for my game. And what happened? All my hard work went down the drain ;/migrated level doesnt work

Unreal Engine 5.8.0 is finally out Lot of cool features they promised here, cannot wait to check some out . Character Mesh to MetaHuman, new TerrainMesh, MetaHuman Crowds Sample,MetaHuman Animator Markerless Motion Capture Plugin to name a few. Will have to check if they can work inside my project🧐

It's alive!;) Yesterday: paper and pencil, planning the attribute system. Today: deep end. Managed to push through a tutorial and get a new attribute! Few "adventures" with C++ later and Mana is up and running. Drains on spells, regenerates naturally and through potions/items. Small win, tastes good

New level of scope creep unlocked: DECISION PARALYSIS. Dozens of ideas for attribute systems, skills, leveling. Can't pick one. Solution? Paper. Stepping away from the keyboard for one day. Throwing out 80% of old ideas. Building 1-2 prototypes Breakthrough or just procrastination? We'll see.

Next day with little of level design-blocking out, first layout of some paths ‪ Solo dev. Dark fantasy RPG. UE5. Evenings and weekends only.

Dear diary, today is Children's Day in Poland — a good enough reason to finally do something I love- a game. Not "games" — THE game. Living in my head for a decade. Probably the only one I'll ever have enough time and passion to create. Not getting any younger. Rolling up my sleeves. Again ;)
