Another master came to see the swordmaster. "Let me watch you teach." He watched a lesson, then asked: "Where do they get their swords?" "Some have their own, others borrow a school sword, like this." "This is an exceptional sword!" "If you have a bad sword, you learn to fight it, not use it."

People, young and old, came to the witch for directions. "I seek adventure." "I seek wisdom." "I need a place to feel at home." "I feel like I need to cry, but I can't." The witch listened, and told all where to find what they sought. And the local library thrived. #CrossRepost
There is still good here. We can purposefully look for it. We can purposefully create it. This world will not convince me I must harden myself, my heart. I will stay soft. Even here.
I was reminded this week of just how terrible & loud the loudest of the terrible people can be, especially on the internet. And it can be really, really depressing & distressing. But we don’t have to meet them there.
We need to stop seeing neurodevelopmental conditions (and mental health conditions) as character flaws. However, the response shouldn't be to frame them as gifts or superpowers. They can and do have negative impacts, but they can and do have neutral or even protective elements too at times
Everyone tells themselves a story to explain their thoughts, behaviours, and emotions. Recognizing that we're neurodivergent, or being diagnosed, changes this story; it can re-frame what we thought were moral failings as expected challenges or new strengths and weaknesses
"People say it must be great to be so strong and free," said the werewolf, "but they don't trust you." "And wolves have their own packs," the witch said, "and you smell weird to them." "How did you know?" "We are many, us living in the between. All we can do is be ourselves, as well we can."
"Huh," said the dragon. "Would you care to explain?" "Yes, I'm not a princess all the time," said the milkmaid. "Only on bright spring days. Once they end, I turn back into me." "How come?" "Oh, I was bitten by a princess." "Again, how come?" "She couldn't help herself," the milkmaid grinned.
As neurodivergent people, our first mission is to stop seeing ourselves as failed neurotypicals. Neurotypical standards are so ubiquitous that most neurodivergent people have internalized them to some extent. Measuring our success against these standards dooms to failure
"Excuse me," the man at the bar said, "but I couldn't help overhearing. Are you really saying you refuse to pick one?" "I don't see why I should have to." "It's a core part of one's identity!" "My gender and sexuality-" "Oh!" He looked relieved. "I thought you were talking about football teams."
If you only do everything you "should" do, you will never have time for anything else… and you probably won't even finish everything you "should" do. It's just not possible. So why feel guilty for not finishing all of the things you (and others) tell yourself you should do?
Picard management tip: Don't assume anything is possible or impossible until you've asked the people who will be doing the work.

"What is your favourite part of your job?" the reporter asked. "That's a tough one," said the book. "For me, I would say being re-read." "Because it shows you were loved?" "No, you can feel that at a first read. It's that I can show more than the first time round." "It's more intimate?" "Yes."
Them: The rules are the rules… My autistic ass, making notes: *nods* Them: …unless they're more of a guideline… Me: *nodding slows* Them: …or everyone knows that it's not ACTUALLY a rule Me: wait… WHAT!?!?
When the selkie returned to the beach, a man was holding her sealskin. "Is this yours?" he asked. "May I borrow it?" "You want to be a seal?" "No, but when I take it off, I'll be a woman, right?" "My heart, you already are," the selkie said. "That skin is mine, but I can help you find yours."
"You have tampered in the Gods' domain!" the god shouted. "Well, maybe, but you gods tamper in the human domain all the time!" "That's... That's different!" "How?" "We are Gods! It's what we do!" "And we are human. Likewise." "I..." The god sighed. "Fair. But keep it quiet, okay?"
Picard management tip: Your first impulse will often be wrong, but you have to start somewhere.
Picard management tip: It's okay if your second in command has a different management style, as long as you both agree on the goals.

"You have improved," the swordmaster said. "Thanks to my new sword," said the student. The swordmaster studied the blade and frowned. "This is enchanted?" "You know about cursed swords that whisper that you should kill?" "Yes?" "This tells me I'm loved and valid." "Ah. Well. It's not wrong."
The chieftain turned to one of his warriors. "Say, what is the best pronoun?" "She, powerful like the sea." "That is good." The chieftain turned to another warrior. "What say you?" "He, soft like a breath." "That is good. Conan! What is the best pronoun?" Conan thought. "Whichever I choose."
Routines are so fickle for most people with ADHD. Even the smallest changes can completely destroy our routines. This can send us back to square one and require us to rebuild them seemingly from scratch... over and over and over and over and over 😵💫
