Feeding time for the Backyard Critters

A handsome devil. Male house sparrow is modeling his patterned feathers on his wings and back. I think he might have a bit of an attitude. #birds #sparrow 🪶 #photography #birdwatching #backyardbird

A male house finch stands on a white fence. He is looking off in the distance towards the left side of the photo. His brown/black feathers are highlighted by the morning sun. Green leaves on a tree is in the background.

What is that? Is it really? Could it be? The sun! Female house sparrow surprised to see the sun. After almost two weeks of cloudy, gray, rainy days - it was a nice to have the sun out. A pleasant surprise. 😃 #photography #naturetherapy #backyardbird #birdwatching #nature #birdphotography

Tiny female house sparrow sitting on a branch, staring into the sky. The background is blurred green and blue from the tree by the sparrow. Some of the leaves have fallen, so more of the sky is showing.
The sparrow's back is to the camera, so the beautiful brown/black markings on the bird can be seen. her eyes are bright black and she has an almost cream colored beak.

Marigold blooming #naturetherapy #bloomscrolling #flowers #plants #photography #flowergarden #macro

Bright orange marigold in the middle of the photo. The marigold bloom leaning over causing the bloom to be facing down. The background is blurred colors of purple, black and green. The color effect is created by the surrounding plants in the garden.

Friends chillin' and seem to be enjoying the day. #sparrows #birds #birdwatching #backyardbird #photography #birdnerd #birdphotography

Middle of the photo, sitting on a dirty white fence are two female house sparrows. These are small birds. On the top and right edge of the photo are green leaves from the trees by the fence. The way the morning sun was filtered through the leaves of the tree almost makes it look like a spotlight is shining on the birds.

Brown headed cowbird taking a walk at a park. #birds 🪶 #birdwatching #birdwatcher #photography #birdnerd

The bird has a brown head, with a black beak. At first glance his body looks black, scroll in closer and his feathers are dark greens and purple along with black. The colors are similar to a grackle. To the right of the picture is some green grass. The bird had been walking along the cement walkway, stopped and turned towards the grass. After this photo was taken he walked into the grass to get to a cooler spot. The photo was taken on a very hot July day. I was surprised he was walking on the cement at all.

Hawk seems to be surprised I'm taking his picture. Not sure he is fond of the idea. 🤭 #raptor #backyardbird #hawk #photography

Cooper's hawk sitting on a white fence. His back is towards the camera. He is looking over his right shoulder and his beak is open. The background is very dark with some greenery on the right side. It was a cloudy day and he was standing near a very shaded area when this photo was taken.

This bee almost missed this plant when he went from plant to plant. This is a photo taken with my macro lens. I wasn't able to get extremely close because I didn't want to get in his way. 😃 #bee #insects #photography #macro 🐝

A bee is on the loser part of a purple/pink flower. This was one part of the plant. There were multiple stalks and multiple flowers. The blurred background is a mix of the other parts of the plant. It was an overcast day, which made the pink/purple flower really stand out.

Pink zinnia's in the morning light. #flowers #Bloomscrolling #plants #photography #zinnia

Two pink zinnias are in the center of the photo. To the right of the zinnia is greenery from other zinnias. The background is slightly blurred brick and gray siding. These zinnias are in a flower garden by a house.

Everything needs time in sunshine. #butterfly #insects #photography #nature #monarch

The backdrop is a small acreage of a wild grass/flower field. There are bright orange spots of milkweed as part of the main focus of the photo. A butterfly (might be a monarch or a look alike, can't tell without it's wings being open.)

Heron posing for a photo. He stood completely still in this spot for a few minutes while I took pictures from a distance and at various angles. #heron #Birds #wildlife #birdwatching #birdnerd #photography

Initially I had tried to get a picture of the heron with his reflection in the water. Unfortunately his entire reflection was not clear, so I opted for this. The heron is standing in a small lake. Behind him in the water and further in the background are wild grasses. I did have to darken the background a bit during processing because he was blending too much into the grasses.

Female house finch - looking beautiful. Noticed her while filling the bird feeders. She quietly, watching everything around her. #Photography #birds #birdwatching 🪶 #backyardbird #birdnerd

Bokeh background created by the morning sun shining on drew drops. The female house finch is on the right side of the photo sitting on a branch. This branch is bare because of all the birds that nibble on the buds. Female house finch is a brown/gray bird. She has a beautiful pattern of brown and with on her chest.

Rooftop meeting. What could they be discussing?🤭 #sparrows #birds #birdwatching #nature #backyardbird

Several house finches are on a rooftop. The little brownish birds blend in a bit to the colors around. Some have their beaks open - no doubt they have a lot to say. Others are looking around, almost disinterestedly.

Yellow wildflower. Look closely and you might see a fly or two. 😊 #Stunday #YellowSunday #Bloomscrolling #wildflowers #plants #flowers #photography

Green background is blurred wild grasses. A cloudy day also softened the light, making the yellow stand out a bit more. There is a very tiny out of focus fly on a flower petal on the left of the flower. Another fly, in focus, is on the right of the photo towards the back of the flower.

Young deer standing in the woodlands greenery. We had a staring contest - the deer won. 🤭 #mammal #deer #wildlife #photography #nature

Slightly off center a young deer is standing in an area filled with vegetation it likes to eat. The deer still has some of the white spots on its back. They are barely noticeable. The deer's ears are in full listening mode. I was a distance off, using my big lens so I could zoom in pretty close without disturbing the deer. A bit of nature at it's finest.

"Will someone please get this bug off of my nose?!" Prairie dog came out of his tunnel with more than dirt. #nature #photography #wildlife #mammal #prairiedog

This photo is focused on the head of the prairie dog. On the middle of his nose is a bug (maybe a fly?). The prairie dog has shades of brown fur and black/brown eyes. His ears can barely be seen. They are small, flat against his head and the same color as his fur. The green background is the blurred vegetation around the tunnel hole.

Meadowlark singing into the morning light. #bird 🪶 #wildlife #meadowlark #birdwatcher #nature #photography Reminds me of the song by the Carpenters - Sing a Song. (some of the lyrics) Sing, Sing a song Sing out loud Sing out strong Sing of good things not bad Sing of happy not sad

The meadowlark is almost in the middle of the photo. He is standing on a small, young tree in the middle of the photo. The bird is facing towards the right side of the picture. There are some beams of sunlight shining into the photo from the upper right corner.

The background are tree filled hills with a blue sky. The foreground is a field of lighter green prairie grass.

Lakeside on a nice early summer day. This photo was taken about a month ago before the horrible heat hit. #nature #lakeside #photography #landscape

The sky is a light blue with fluffy looking white clouds. The middle of the photo shows the line of trees around portions of the lake. The bottom and towards the front of the photo is the lake. It is slightly shade because of the nearby trees. There are branches sticking up out of the water. These are from trees that grew here long ago. The birds now enjoy the branches as perches. Unfortunately the bird were nowhere to be scene when I took this photo.

Quite excited! This is the first photo I've gotten of a Meadowlark! He was just standing on the top of a very small tree. He started singing as soon as I put the camera down. 🙁 #meadowlark #birds #birdwatching #lifer #photography

Bright blue, cloudless sky in the background. Tall grasses at the bottom of the photo. Resting on top of a very small tree was a meadowlark. The bird has a yellow chest with a brown patch at his neck. This photo was taken from my car, so it is not the sharpest.

Lots of brown in this photo. The focus is on the sleeping goat in the middle of the picture. He is brownish/red. His nose is brown with white and brown freckled around his nose and mouth. He is resting his head on the feeder made of wood. There is hay next to (on the right) and by the goat. The ground is a light brown sand/dirt mix.

"No ma'am, I did not bury a peanut in the hibiscus planter." says the not so innocent Frank (1st photo) Photographic evidence Frank, did indeed, bury the peanut in the hibiscus planter. (2nd photo) #SquirrelSunday #squirrel #mammal #wildlife #photography #nature

brown/red squirrel in the middle of the photo looking between two black metal posts on a deck. He has a paw up against his chest, adding to his appearance of innocence. The background is blurred green with some white (grass in the yard and part of a fence.

A sage green planter with the darker green leaves of the hibiscus plant takes up the right side of the photo. On the left is a small portion of the wood and metal deck railing. The squirrel is almost in the middle of the photo with his head peeking out under the green leaves of the hibiscus.

This bald eagle is probably about 3 1/2 years or older. He still has a lot of brown feathers on his head. Bald eagles with the feather all white on their head are over 5 years old. This bald eagle is in captivity due to an issue with his wings. #raptor #wildlife #birds #birdwatching #photography

The eagles head is most of the photo. There are brown feathers mixed in with the white feathers. His eyes appear to be light brown. He is sitting amongst the branches of a tree. The leaves are the green in the photo.

There is some of the wire fence showing lightly in the background of the photo. He was behind the fence, so I really had to play with the focus to get a clear photo.
