That one is very interesting, as hinted by the article, because it is a transition between the hard-boiled of the 1980s and the shin-honkaku of the post-1987. The solution is so out there, it has the shin-honkaku vibes, while keeping the yakuza theming. Not unlike 異邦の騎士 (1988), in retrospect.
