The Kamloops & District Labour Council is inviting candidates in the 2026 local elections to complete a candidate profile survey as part of the KDLC’s endorsement process. The surveys give candidates an opportunity to share their priorities, experience, and positions on issues that matter to workers, families, and communities throughout the Kamloops district. Responses will be reviewed by the KDLC and may be used to help inform endorsement decisions and communicate candidate information to affiliated unions and their members. The Kamloops & District Labour Council is proud to continue supporting Heavy Metal Rocks, School District 73’s outstanding hands-on trades program that introduces local students to careers in heavy equipment and related industries. Heavy Metal Rocks remains an important part of SD73’s Trades and Transitions programming in 2026. The program gives Grade 11 and 12 students the chance to explore careers in construction and forestry while learning directly from certified operators and industry mentors. Kamloops and District Labour Council (KDLC) voted at our January General Meeting to endorse Canada’s NDP leadership candidate Rob Ashton. Rob Ashton is the current president of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Canada. He is widely known for his long-standing advocacy for workers’ rights. In a gesture of solidarity and remembrance, Curtis Laverty of IUOE Local 115 presented the donation on behalf of the KDLC to Cary, one of the dedicated caretakers at Pleasant Street Cemetery.
