We have an incredible problem: too many donations for our mutual aid hub and not enough shelves! We’ve outgrown our current setup, and we need to adapt to keep up with need, especially as we help candidates across the country adopt this model.

BIG NEWS: With the federal case being dropped, the mutual aid hub stays open this week! We’re still recovering from weeks of legal chaos, so we’ll be open Tues through Thurs for cleanups, game night, tax workshops, and phonebanking, then closed Fri - Sun to rest. Here’s what we're up to this week:

Mutual Aid Hub hours: Tuesday to Thursday 5/26 to 5/28, 12 to 7PM. Closed Friday through Sunday. 5/25: Office closed for Memorial Day. 5/26: Warren Park cleanup, 6 to 7PM. 5/27: James Park cleanup, 1 to 2:30PM. Game night, 6 to 8PM. 5/28: Community Tax Alliance tax workshop, 12 to 3PM. KAPOW phonebank for Mai Vang, 7 to 9PM CT / 5 to 7PM PT. 5/29: Office closed. 5/30: Office closed. 5/31: Office closed, livestream with Kat 6PM CT.

KAPOW is back with movies, game nights, local neighborhood clean ups and our very own book swap All of our events are free to attend and donations are always welcome. Right now we could use shampoo + conditioner, diapers (sizes 4-6), paper towels, unworn socks, toilet paper and gallon ziplock bags!

KAPOW weekly calendar Mutual aid office hours M-F: 12pm-7pm Sat and Sun: 10am-1pm EVENTS: Monday 5/4: Office Cleaning Party, 6 to 8pm. Suggested donation: shampoo or conditioner. Tuesday 5/5: Office closed for Cinco de Mayo. Wednesday 5/6: Park Cleanup at Indian Boundary Park, 6 to 7pm. Suggested donation: diapers (sizes 4 to 6). Thursday 5/7: In-person and virtual movie night, My Cousin Vinny, 6 to 8pm. Suggested donation: paper towels. Friday 5/8: In-person and virtual game night, 6 to 8pm, suggested donation of socks. Also Park Cleanup at James Park, 12 to 1pm. Saturday 5/9: Mutual Aid Day, 11am to 1pm. Suggested donation: gallon-sized Ziplocs. Sunday 5/10: Crafting Circle and Book Swap (bring books to swap, take books you want), 11am to 1pm. Suggested donation: toilet paper.

Defeatism? We don’t know her. Our community support-based campaign model demonstrates a new model for politics and engaged a record number of young voters. Now we’re not just going to keep doing that work. We’re helping campaigns across the country do the same.

STORY: By Tina Sfondeles | Apr 2, 2026, 4:36pm CDT "Fresh off a second-place finish, progressive content creator and former congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh is scaling up her political network to help purple and progressive candidates in the Midwest - all while keeping her Rogers Park campaign office open as a mutual aid hub and community space." Chicago Sun Times quote: Abughazaleh announced she will help campaigns "integrate mutual aid and direct action into their races," and she plans to help races across the country, "especially in the Midwest." Abughazaleh said she is working with partners to fund the project and plans to expand it to help other candidates. "But Kat, you lost your race. How could you even say that this model could win races?' Well I'm so glad you asked. We came in a very close second in a field of 15, beating out AIPAC and multiple established local politicians, and we did it with zero outside money," Abughazaleh said. "We brought in more first-time Gen Z donors than the DSCC [Democratic Senate Campaign Committee] the DCC [Democratic Congressional Committee], [Senate Minority Leader Chuck] Schumer, [House Minority Leader Hakeem] Jeffries and my next two primary opponents combined." Abughazaleh raised an astonishing $3.3 million in an anti-establishment primary race, which included avoiding newspaper and Democratic Party endorsements and using livestream events to solicit small-donor donations instead of begging big-time donors for cash. She also used that time to tell voters about her platform, which included universal health care, protections against price-gouging, more housing with federal incentives, climate action — and removing lead pipes. Abughazaleh said the campaign's framework for mutual aid - opening up her Rogers Park campaign office as a place for people to come for food, clothing and essential needs like baby formula — "was the No. 1 persuader to undecided voters."Chicago Sun Times article excerpt reads: Part of her post-election plans also include increasing free community-focused events at the Rogers Park campaign office at 7016 N. What if you help us knit hats for people during a cold snap? What if you help us organize diapers for parents that need them?" Our grassroots movement forced every power — from AIPAC to the establishment — to use their entire arsenal, just to barely beat us. Our loss today merely makes the path easier for the next person who runs. It’s an honor to be able to clear that path.

Thank you to everyone who supported this campaign. Together we were able to do things never seen in American politics, to set a new standard from what we should expect from the people who try to represent us. What we built matters, regardless of the outcome. And the work isn’t over.
