Something along the lines of, say, Poochie. Only more proactive.
I've been building @inthelongrun.app for a while, a different kind of running app. Connect to Strava, pick country or continent spanning virtual routes and follow your progress as your running mileage moves you along the route. www.inthelongrun.app
In The Long Run
Inspiration and motivation for your long term running goals.

Me after reading about the training and security practices at the big labs. All the concerns about safety ring a bit hollow when there appear to be so many shortcuts taken in training...
Wrote about the etto principle, the Efficiency-Thoroughness Trade-Off, in the age of ai. tl;dr: I think ai tools lower the cost of both, but the focus in the tooling is all on efficiency. And the costs and benefits are not paying out to the same people. dev.karltryggvason.com/the-etto-pri...
The ETTO Principle - Efficiency-Thoroughness Trade-Off - in the age of AI
The ETTO principle refers to the fact that people (and organisations) as part of their activities frequently – or always – have to make a trade-off between the resources (primarily time and effort) th...

@simonwillison.net wondering if your pelicans on bicycles benchmark is inspired by this track or vice versa? Or maybe they are totally independent of each other (great minds and all that) tututa.bandcamp.com/track/pelica... Banger of a tune either way!

Mér finnst magnað hvað þjóðríkið sem hin fullkomna eining í stjórnsýslu er rótgróið. Til dæmis í öllu fullveldis talinu í ESB umræðunni, alltaf notað eins og eitthvað skákogmát dæmi. Afhverju er þjóðþing svona augljóslega besti kosturinn í ákvörðunum?
Do you know about Server-sent Events? Neat web API that I'd somehow never heard of. dev.karltryggvason.com/server-sent-...
Server-Sent Events — The web API I somehow missed for 15 years
Doing radio is the thing I miss the most from my djing days. In an effort to recapture some of that fun I recently built a small streaming site where me and a few friends occasionally dj for each othe...

You can't unit test for taste
I’m building In the Long Run where runners do virtual runs on famous routes around the world. The app tallies up your Strava mileage and plots your total distance as progress against country- or conti...

Some git productivity tips I've learned recently. When rebasing, squashing and re-ordering commits combine "--fixup", "--autosquash" and "GIT_SEQUENCE_EDITOR=true" to save yourself some manual reorg work. dev.karltryggvason.com/git--fixup--...
Added some new features to SQLYac, my lil' terminal sql tool: dev.karltryggvason.com/sqlyac-new-f... Use it to bring structure to your sql files, so you can share them and collaborate. Get the power and flexibility of the terminal for your sql queries avoid lock in with expensive gui tools.
SQLYac New Features
I just added a couple of new features to SQLYac, my sql cli tool. SQLYac brings structure to your sql files and queries, making them version controlled and shareable and enables variables for reuse an...

Your project should have .http files
It is a common ritual, grepping through http handlers or spelunking in a project’s Slack when you just want to know how to hit the auth endpoint. But it doesn’t have to be like this! If your service o...

How I analyzed the lineups at the world's most popular nightclubs
A few years back I did a bit of dance music related data visualization over at Lazily Evaluated. My favourite was an analysis of clubs and their lineups using Resident Advisor / RA data, I called it C...

There were 14 Tsars of Russia, from Peter the Great to Nicholas II (1721 to 1917). Of these 5 were murdered or assassinated. Pretty brutal. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...
Repeatedly reading “Tesla robotaxis” as “robot axis”. Imagining some sort of robot powered alternative ww2 history where the axis powers win.

A "life hack" I've gotten a lot of milage from: make playlists just with stuff you are listening to now. Don't group by mood, genre or anything like that! Just whatever you find/like in a given month/quarter. When you revisit them later, it's like a time machine. Pow right in the nostalgia.
Me whenever I have to run a docker compose command with the "--remove-orphans" flag. Unfortunate parameter naming!
The @localfirst.fm podcast is fast becoming my favourite tech podcast. Great guests and hosts, hits a great balance in talk about interesting libraries and technical challenges, pragmatism and high minded idealism. Makes me excited about web development again! www.localfirst.fm

Hafiði pælt í hvað “hugbúnaður” er geggjað orð? Íslenska er yndislegt tungumál.
With the Greenland dispute maybe Denmark and the US can find some common ground in the fact that they now both call large bodies of water something totally different than the rest of the world. Denmark calls the North Sea “Vesterhavet” (the West Sea) because it is to the West of Denmark…
Hvimleitt hversu oft ég ruglast á "nípur" og "ný pör" frétta dálkunum hjá mbl. Þegar ég er að leita af fréttum af pastinaca sativa, hvítleita rótargrænmetinu sívinsæla, lendi ég bara í einhverjum slúður dálki um fræga fólkið. www.mbl.is/frettir/male...
Ætti að vera skylda að hafa þetta graf til hliðsjónar í allri umræðu um orkumál og virkjanir á Íslandi. Það er ruglað hvað við sköpum lítil verðmæti með allri orkunni sem við erum að nýta (og erum svo heppinn að hafa aðgang að).
