Books that have inspired me most are the ones that get people talking. Not because they make everyone agree, but because they make us ask questions, empathise, or see things in different ways. We Need to Talk About Kevin, The Handmaid’s Tale and The Push all did that for me. #BluePit #BluePitHype
Welcome to the final day of #BluePitHype! It's only 1 day to #BluePit on July 13th! So, join us for our Q&A! Today is INSPIRATION DAY! Share what art, stories, games, etc. that made you decided to start creating stories! #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #Writers #AmQuerying #GameDev #Comic #TTRPG
Yes 🙌 this makes me feel proud to have completed my novel - a timely reminder ❤️
#BluePitHype I don't have advice, but it made me think how only 3% of people who set out to write a novel do. The odds of getting traditionally published is 1-2%.The only thing you can control during the process is to TRY! I commend anyone putting themselves out there! #WriteSky #AmQuerying #BluePit
Great advice! ❤️
Be proud of your book and yourself. You poured your heart, soul and time into it, so why not celebrate that huge accomplishment? As long as you stay true to yourself and your vision while pitching your book, you will attract the right audience. #BluePitHype #AmQuerying
@profilepitevent.bsky.social I’m querying Blame… After a party leaves a teenage girl harmed and a boy accused, three lives unravel as the same night is seen very differently. A mother finds her deepest convictions tested when the accused is her own son… #ProfilePit #Q #A #bookclub #upmarket
#BluePitHype We have tips under the main post below, but this one warrants its own. The best way to support pitches is to REPOST the pitch! On BlueSky, YOU are the algorithm, and what you support drives the Discover feed! #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #Writers #AmQuerying #GameDev #Comic #TTRPG

I’ve just started querying myself, so not sure I should give advice! 😅 But the lesson I’ve learned refining my query is: Lead with story, not themes/vibes. I kept talking about what my book explored; but focusing on the story and conflict made my pitch stronger 💪 #BluePit #BluePitHype #AmQuerying
@bluepit.bsky.social #bluepithype 👋 Hi! I’m Kate, based in the UK. I love writing conversation-starting stories that invite readers to see things from a different POV. I’m currently querying my first novel-(upmarket/book club). Always happy to chat books, writing and publishing. 📚 #BookSky
I’ve been meaning to make one of these for yonks. It wasn’t easy, but I got there! Meet Blame… After a party leaves a teenage girl harmed and a boy accused of sexual assault, a mother finds her deepest convictions tested when the accused is her son. #amquerying #upmarketfiction #bookclubfiction
My little boy is eleven now. His hand is almost as big as mine. A huge part of why I wrote my novel was knowing the allure of messages boys absorb online about masculinity, relationships and vulnerability. I wanted to write something compassionate and honest about kids growing up in that world. 💙
Squinting in the Suffolk sun ☀️ I spent Saturday talking all things children’s books with some wonderfully creatives - thanks @uosenglish for organising ❤️ - I left itching to write more! We covered all sorts inc: - current trends - finding your voice - embracing feedback - lots more…
Walking through beautiful Green Park to work in the morning sunshine ☀️ is the perfect chance to let my mind ponder on the feedback I’ve had on my book and next steps! I’ve been so lucky 🍀 to have so many supportive, amazing friends read my book and give me such encouraging and thoughtful feedback.
I’ve been so busy writing in any spare time recently that I’ve not posted in a while, but wanted to mention Broken Country! This starts as a love story set against the rural backdrop of Devon, but the story soon becomes darker and much more layered… a great book for discussion! #amreading
New picture book love: The Café at the Edge of the Woods. Gently rhyme, gloriously gothic illustrations, and a story that mixes fine food with an ogre and an odd green waiter. I really love how it doesn’t talk down to children - words like truffle, miso paste and fondue just there to be enjoyed 📚💚
Don’t you just love Pooh? I only recently learned that this quote, so often attributed to him, is actually from poet Erin Hanson. What it captures for me though is one of the reasons I love picture books - how they can help children begin to see their own brilliance and potential. 💭📚
My 7-year-old daughter got two new Little People, Big Dreams books for Christmas - Coco Chanel and Simone Biles. Reading them last night made me think about how many of the inspiring people in this series had challenging starts in life. A quietly powerful message for kids. 💭
I’ve recently been writing a picture book with a stick insect main character 🌿 Research highlights: baby stick insects are called nymphs, some spray a stinky mist when scared, and they’ve been around since the dinosaurs. Lots of story inspo - plus some cute stick insect drawings with the kids 😂
Found this book at the back of the shelf - a favourite with me and the kids. Quentin Blake at his funniest and warmest. Love the Parisian setting and everything else about it! “They looked at her with their big round eyes and said nothing.” Understated. Mischievous. A joy. 🐒📚
My Goodreads year-in-books surprised me. I don’t think of myself as a historical fiction reader… and yet. Kristin Hannah was a huge discovery for me this year, and The Island of Missing Trees stayed in my head long after I finished it. Apparently my definition of “historical” needs expanding.
Does anyone else remember Katy Laura and the Dream Boat? It was one of my childhood faves - lyrical, dreamy, full of moonlight and quiet magic. Writing children’s books lately has made me think a lot about why certain stories linger. What picture books have stayed with you? #picturebooks
Hi, I’m Kate 👋 I work in comms, love to read, and have a soft spot for children’s books - especially picture books. I’ll mostly be sharing what I’m reading (solo + with my kids, 7 & 11), and occasionally muttering about writing my own. 📚✨
