I like cake and beer. And I think St. Paul is pretty cool.
Scene from a walk with my kid: Kid: Mama, that's a police car. That's the ICE police. Kid (to the police car): Go away police, you're ICE, you're bad, we don't like you. The police have lost the 5 year old crowd. They're cooked.
I remember everyone who showed up to my dad’s celebration of life. Friends of mine who never met him, people we hadn’t seen in years, people from his care team. They all helped us celebrate and grieve, and heal.
Since today is a day about death and remembrance, my best life advice related to death: go to the funeral. You’re thinking that you don’t know the family well enough, you’re not that close, you’ll be in the way. You won’t. Go to the funeral.
I‘d change into the creatures living in my yard and figure out what i can fix to make it better for them.
Your witchy alchemist friend has brewed up some new fragrances for you to try Oud & Amber — ability to shapeshift Patchouli & Sandalwood - ability to clone yourself Which ONE do you chose and what do you do with it?
If you had to sell someone on your neighborhood in one stop, where would you go? My mom is moving to St. Paul, and for her birthday/mother's day I want to give her some "get to know the cities" itineraries to help her explore the area. She's in her late 60s, fairly active, and doesn't drink.
I love the dog park. But if you can read this and think anything other than we have to close it, you are broken inside.

Dude at the gas station is wearing a t-shirt at the gas station that says “For Grace, God, and Gravel”. Indiana is different.
Getting a cargo bike was the best decision I’ve made in years. A I’m so excited St. Paul is getting an e-bike library so more folks can try them out!
Join us for our launch party on Saturday, April 25, 2-5 pm at Milton Square - corner of Como and Carter Avenues in Saint Paul! Meet the bikes, the new Acorn Bookshop for Independent Bookstore day, and the other great stores in St. Anthony Park.
Listening to our overtired 4 yo ask her version of the four questions is the perfect way to end the night. My favorite: “Why do we dip the food so much that it’s too salty?”
Just all the freaking books. Right now my kid has 15 from the county library, 2 from the school library (the limit), and she picks up 1-2 a day from little free libraries. Her favorite toy is books.
I missed all the children's book discourse today, but here's my advice road-tested across two kids: Just take them to the library and let them choose piles of whatever the hell they want, take them all home, and let them read them. Next week do the same thing. Over and over, pile after pile.
During bedtime, my kid turned to me and said “you’re doing great, mama.” I don’t know if she was giving me feedback on my bedtime performance or my parenting in general, but after a mid day, it meant a lot.
For as long as I can remember (like 2023) spending a year in Antarctica has been my dream, so H. If I can't do H, literally any other area because it's only a year and I've spent most of my years stuck in one of the areas while having to pay for all my expenses.
You can live anywhere on Earth for a year, all expenses paid, BUT you can’t leave your chosen area. Which do you pick? More on the choices: brilliantmaps.com/all-expen...
The note my kid left in her leprechaun trap really takes a turn in the second sentence. The words don’t capture the menace in her voice while she dictated it to me.
I’m from the Indianapolis area, so we’d go to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May to watch teams practice for the Indy 500. I know so much about Indy cars.
Meet Snowmanny, the snow person my 4yo built while I shoveled the sidewalk.
The whole family is sick, so instead of spending the weekend in New Orleans for a wedding, we’ll spend it watching the snow forecast change every hour.
The babysitter introduced our kid to Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood last night, and now our kid is hooked. Best $40 I’ve ever spent.
One worked in an Allison’s Transmission plant and the other had a desk job, but his PTSD was so bad that his real job was drinking.
Whether or not you’re running for Congress and trying to seem rugged (and you probably should run, because, look who’s out there) what did your grandpas do for a living?
I'm not sorry about all the snow, but it is my fault for getting my bikes ready for spring.
Sorry about all the snow you guys. I got my daughter new sandals. I knew it was way too early, but I just needed to check off something from my list, ya know?
A huge benefit of being my own boss is not getting weak ass emails like these. I may have typed “the current environment” a thousand times, but only because I save the swears for client meetings.
I'm pretty proud of this poem I made out of the euphemisms that companies used to describe the ICE occupation in corporate communications. Also read the whole story: racketmn.com/corporate-co...
Our kid was not happy to have the Olympics preempt movie night, but after one end she was all in on curling. Like it might be the only sport she lets us watch.
Without naming your job, tell me something you say over and over again at work. “Just give people money.”
Without naming your job, tell me something you say over and over again at work. “Thanks!”
Today, instead of picking a book from the little free library my 4yo picked the ICE Out zine so she could ”learn how to protect neighbors from the ICE people.“ She read it while she walked into school. I am so proud and so heartbroken.
You’d think the Minneapolis Fed could read the fucking room just a smidge better than this.
This is terrifying. That agent looking through her window is the stuff of nightmares.
Georgia Fort, an independent journalist and vice president of the Minnesota NABJ chapter, was also arrested by federal agents this morning I was sent this video of agents at her door:
Quick Racket giveaway! We've got one extra ticket to the Tom Morello show at First Ave today. RT by 10 a.m. for a chance to win! The catch? The ticket is non-transferrable, so you'll have to meet Keith at the door around 11.
This is terrifying. Can you imagine how many notifications you’ll get once everyone knows you hate ICE?
TOM HOMAN: “We’re going to create a database where those people that are arrested for interference, impeding and assault, we’re going to make them famous. We’re going to put their face on TV. We’re going to let their employers, in their neighborhoods, in their schools, know who these people are.”
