Dryads are a type of magical creature that form symbiotic relationships with trees. Their biology is largely a mystery, though scientists speculate it may be a highly complex single-celled organism capable of wielding magic. #Art | #Flowerpunk | #CreatureDesign

A series of concept sketches for the dryad.

The top right sketch shows the dryad's core, the penklatory nucleus. It resembles a giant, blue plant cell crossed with a plasma globe. It has a bright, shining core, an inner membrane filled with bizarre organelles and strange stamen-like structures stretching from the inner membrane to the outer membrane. The top left sketch shows the nucleus nested in a root matrix which branches out from the umbilical root.

The set of middle sketches show all the different forms that the root matrix can be formed into. They include a human, a wolf, an owl and a boar. All of these forms have deformed anatomy and don't quite resemble what they are supposed to, they are a rough approximation.

The bottom sketch shows two dryads in a mating dance. They both have human-like forms with one trying to mimic a woman and the other mimicking a man (despite being a hermaphroditic species, they are simply copying human behaviour).

Some concept art for the battering bird. The bird has features blending many different animals, including ankylosaur, pachycephalosaurus, turkey, cassowary, ostrich, parrot, tortoise and horn-billed toucan.

The tail is heavily armoured and spiky, ending in a bulbous mace-like feature.
