I work in a field that has benefited significantly from AI at a company that was especially well suited to take advantage of AI's strengths and mitigate its weaknesses. And yes... of course I can do some form of the job without.

You got a big jackpot dopamine bonanza when your favorite Simpsons episode was randomly on syndication that day or came across an MST3k marathon
When I would teach about graph theory I'd use the NYC subway map as an example. This would inevitably result in the realization that Queens and Brooklyn are rather disconnected by train. Then my math lesson becomes a history lesson.

Thrift stores and yard sales are still a great place to get games, they have not been hit by the bloodsuckers that have come for books, boardgames and other collectables (mtg, pokemon, Warhammer). But no one beats libraries. A lot of them have pretty decent video game collections.

The understanding of authoring TTRPGs to leave parts incomplete thus inviting the process of filling in those gaps with the emergent story that arises as a result of playing the game, is specifically why LLMs and GenAI are so bad for TTRPGs.

BitBurner is a great game about software development, but there's one thing that really sticks out to me: there is an in game upgrade that gets better when people donate blood in real life and send a photo to the developer.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said it is time for the Democrats to ignore party leaders, embrace a “new vision,” and call for the abolishment of U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.
This makes a lot of sense. People looking for productivity hacks and get rich quick schemes with AI are the most likely to believe that AI is high enough quality to come up with the ideas in the first place.

This is exactly right. Very useful technology that was horridly mismanaged. Toy applications were repeatedly shoveled out as "replacements for workers" and basically only convinced top brass at companies.

I once ran a Pathfinder game solely based around this image. Well... now it is going to be twice, because I've been asked to run it again by the daughter of one of my players from my first game.
It is so ironic to me that math professors will say "when will I ever need to use this?" about teaching, but then turn around and get mad at students who ask the same thing about mathematics.

All this talk about using AI to hit metrics despite those metrics being meaningless at a particular scope is bringing back so many memories of my dad talking about Deming from his MBA.
