It's friday, the day when i scour the internet to find out if there are any updates on the release of Shorsey Season 5. Treat to self. Disappointment.

Bless you, citizen of Winnemucca, who filed the sole "Did You Feel It" response to the earthquake of 2 hrs ago
Sorry for never evver posting here, but does anyone know where to find a cartoon depicting continents breaking through oceanic crust like an icebreaker? I believe I have seen one that dates from an argument against continental drift but i cannot seem to locate this on the entire internet
The preservation of open space and public lands for future generations is among the most fundamental promises of America and is the very purpose of having a government: to protect for all what would be destroyed by short term profit-seeking, so we all may enjoy the much greater long-term benefits.
GEOLOGISTS -- Poleta Folds is for sale!?!?
Does anyone know if they are selling the mineral rights too? Or just the land? Those are 2 different things and the distinction is important. If you get land but not mineral rights, this isn’t meant for mining or petroleum companies because there would be no point
haven't read the paper yet but the title is certainly refreshing: The 2021 Mw 5.6 Earthquake in the Guyana Shield, South America: An Intraplate Event with No Reason to Occur Marcelo Assumpção et al. out this week in The Seismic Record
if anyone happens to read a truly terrible article in a famously factually-challenged UK news rag today that relates to earthquakes in Nevada, please ignore it. The headline is wackadoodle and the article makes no sense. People behind this kind of drivel should be ashamed of themselves.
don't buy all of these because i want them www.bolognasandwichglass.com/product/stai...
Stained glass good luck charm: post-it note
For my fellow post-it lovers. Each piece measures just under 3 in by 3 in. Close to actual size. Available in opaque, wispy and translucent. Comes...

Perhaps leaving scholarly communication in the hands of researchers would be a better use of research funds
Wiley with a tiny 1% I wondervwhat that's about. Fallout from buying and shuttering Hindawi still ongoing? Anyone know Wiley from other years? #SciPub
Glad to see this step. Surprised it took this long
The presidents of 200 US colleges declare: "As leaders of America’s colleges, universities, and scholarly societies, we speak with one voice against the unprecedented government overreach and political interference now endangering American higher education." Good! www.aacu.org/newsroom/a-c...

I love scrolling through my instagram and liking everything because I carefully curated it for things I like to see
I deeply appreciate how The Orville has carried on the great Star Trek tradition of making every habitable planet look like a different county park in the greater Los Angeles area
just because some great scientists volunteer for journals run by particular publishers, does not mean YOU should volunteer too -- your time and expertise are too valuable to throw away to for-profit publishers. Support society journals and volunteer where benefits stay in the research community!
time spent assembling information for annual review: 4 hrs. time spent wrangling the online submission system: 8 hrs and counting!?!? 👎 interfolio!!!
I didn't take this picture but I think that's the Fish Lake Valley fault zone. Fact check me anybody?
Reconning locations in the Piper Mountain Wilderness for a new seismic station. At this site, we think we might see a fault scarp (dark linear shadow below peak). Can we put a station here just because it's pretty? Can we please?
No matter how insane the world seems, we will keep doing everything possible to make one corner of it a little safer. Very glad to be part of @nvseismolab.bsky.social
Excited for new issues, new events, new exciting research in 2025!
🎉 We’re back! 🎉 Our amazing volunteer production team is back, hard at work, and we’re excited to bring you more amazing research this year. Also, stay tuned for a call for volunteers to join our Media & Branding team to help us amplify science with Seismica!
Interested in doing a MS studying faults at the University of Alaska Anchorage? I am looking for a student to work on a paleoseismic study of the Castle Mountain fault. We will use geomorphology, geophysical surveys, and sediment cores to understand kinematics and earthquake history.

everyone and everything I work with is interesting and fun and this is wreaking havoc on my work-life balance
SPOILER ALERT: Went out to collect perishable data around yesterday's M5.8 epicentral region. Preliminary results: Nobody feels aftershocks when @faultcreeper.bsky.social is driving. Afternoon frozen slushy river makes for extremely cool co-seismic features (new types? to document!). 1/2
WELL that was a big afternoon around here. Bill Savran and I staring at each other while the room rocked. Nobody drop-covered-held. We need some more earthquake drills! Also the grads in Nevada Geoscience are pretty awesome, they do the socials, here's Solomon www.instagram.com/p/DDYewlkJFMd/
