HOW WILL I KNOW IF MY SYNOPSIS IS GOOD IF I DON'T RUN IT THROUGH AI?!?! You fucking don't. You do the work, you sweat over it, you draft and draft again. You walk through the fear. You celebrate. It's a very human process. Creativity is humanity to its core. Why take that away from yourself?
Keith Rosson
@keithrosson.bsky.social
Writer, arteest, blindish, kinda punk. Winner of the Shirley Jackson Award. FEVER HOUSE, THE DEVIL BY NAME, COFFIN MOON, more. CRONE coming 9/26. Repped by Chad Luibl, Janklow & Nesbit. CLOSED FOR BLURBS, SORRY.
People can shout about AI's inevitability all they want, but if you use that shit to "write" or "generate" aaaanything when it comes to the craft of fiction, you're missing the fucking point entirely, and robbing yourself of a lot of joy and living. THE WORK IS THE POINT. Also, you're a pudwhacker.
Six weeks til CRONE! Got to talk to Rachel Redd Reads about COFFIN MOON, my process, being a legally blind artist, and more. Also a gentle reminder (link in comments) that you can preorder signed copies of CRONE from Broadway Books! Thanks! www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjYU...

Tackling Stephen King books at a way early age was part of my horror education for sure. POLTERGEIST in the theater as a 6 year-old, etc. But oooooo boy, so was this lady. Reading about the Brown Lady of Raynham Hall scared the HELL out of me as a kid. Remember her?
Hell yes, happy pub day to Rene Denfeld and her new novel, The Talking Bone. www.publishersweekly.com/9780063396890

Multnomah County Library has asked me to be a part of their "What's in My Bag?" video series, much like Amoeba Records does, but with books in the library. Of all the cool things that have happened in my writing life, this is ABSOLUTELY one of the coolest. What an honor. I love the library so much.
Goddamn, William Gay was such a great writer. Reading his posthumous STORIES FROM THE ATTIC now and it’s so solid.
In 1992, as a burgeoning young punk, I convinced the counselors at my blind summer camp to take us to Portland to see a show at the X-Ray Cafe, which was how a bunch of us blind and visually impaired teens/pre-teens wound up checking out Big Daddy Meatstraw play a bunch of shopping carts and shit
Kinda took a break from horror while I was back in school for counseling and getting my first couple years in my new job underway. Am slowly trying to come back to it. Finished this killer read by @keithrosson.bsky.social last night and am so glad good horror didn’t go anywhere while I was gone.
👀 Get those pre-orders in and spend the next two months catching up on the back catalog. 💙📚🩸 (If you don’t already have the mentioned books, order from Broadway in Portland and Keith will sign/inscribe them for you.)

Short stories aren't exactly harder to write these days, but they seem harder earned. I've done a lot of them, and even more have died on the vine over the years, so when I finish one - like today - it's cool. Gonna let it marinate a few days, edit, and hopefully announce something real cool soon.
Someone recently posted a review of one of my older novels, and it was very clearly written by AI as it conflates the events of that book AND Fever House into one nonsensical review, and clearly this person didn't read either of them. Ever get the embarrassment shivers for someone you've never met?
Thrilled to be included in this LJ roundup of what the rest of the year looks like in horror. CRONE is listed under the “Can’t Miss Authors,” which, wow. Check it out! www.libraryjournal.com/story/The-Ar...
