30 years of social media breaking my heart.

NEW | California just reached a world-first solar milestone Over HALF (51%) of electricity generation across the whole month of May came from solar power. Battery storage is the big difference maker, enabling California to push the share of solar generation to this level.

Came in rooting for Spain, but damn Martinez! It’s like he plays for a higher league than the rest of the mere humans.

I wonder, if you polled people, how much extra they would pay each year to have their city *not* be covered in thick, choking wildfire smoke for days at a time. I wonder if that might give you more insight into "willingness to pay" vis a vis climate change than asking in the abstract.

I keep hearing folks talk about the loss of flow state with agentic coding, and as a long time exec agentic coding is the highest flow state activity I’ve done in a decade+.

OH: “Also programming is an activity which clearly happens far from God’s light and as such getting a machine to do it isn’t an abomination”

Strange phenomena being in the Bay Area in nominally liberally coded environment and encountering folks who just assumed that consensus reality was that Mamdani was terrible and that of course I agreed.

Spent the weekend in the Bay Area talking with 100+ technologists, and thinkers about AI — and my takeaway is the primary challenge, limitations and existential risk in the tech is that folks are accepting the ways in its accelerating wealth inequality.

A 100 years ago we slipped "engaging tuna blasters" into status reports to see if anyone was reading them. Today Claude tried to add a random DuckDb/parquet dependency to a simple sqlite backed app, and I'm sure it was just checking if I was paying attention.

The frustrating part of this of course is there is a better and cheaper approach using solar, battery, and light grid interconnect that would improve the infrastructure for the region without killing people. Killing people has to be your goal to go this way.

“Each of the [currently 46] types of turbines xAI is operating have the potential to emit more than 2,000 tons of NOx pollution annually, a group of chemicals that contributes to asthma-inducing smog.”
