By 1933, only 69 individual trumpeter swans remained in the continental United States. Today, in Michigan alone, their population is estimated at 3,000 to 5,000 individuals. Read about how the W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary was instrumental in the species' recovery. buff.ly/T9KM76b

It's natural to want to help wildlife like birds during a heat wave, but is it possible? Read some advice from MSU experts, including Kellogg Bird Sanctuary Manager Lisa Duke:
People aren’t the only ones hit by heat. What to do if you see wildlife affected by hot temperatures
As Europe scorches under extreme heat, people aren’t the only ones impacted by the high temperatures and humidity.

Sifting through cross-site @uslter.bsky.social data, researchers found plots with greater biodiversity were more resistant to extreme climatic events. But the key dimensions of biodiversity that helped them cope in wet years weren’t the same as those for dry years. eeb.msu.edu/news/from-de...

We propose that ‘antifragility’, coined by Nassim Taleb, is a great high-level concept for ecologists of all kinds for parsing and communicating the effects of environmental variability. An antifragile property benefits from variability. We explore its use in two mathematical models. (2/4)
