School librarians, what is a tip you’d offer to MSLIS graduate students new to the profession? I’m going to share a “pro tip” in each weekly announcement for my grad class, would love to crowdsource some tips! It can be anything, broad or specific, practical or philosophical! 🙏 ❤️

4.5 hours at the emergency vet in the middle night just to find out my cat just has a little fecking anxiety Oh& I have to be at work in 4 hours lol Good thing she’s cute
Just discovered there’s one season from 2023 of a show called “Shelved”. Abbott Elementary style sitcom, takes place in a public library And the opening line is “unfortunately renovations have been pushed back again” & I have never felt more seen as a librarian 😂😂😂
The unmitigated gall of this company to market themselves specifically as a replacement to trained librarians and to exhibit AT THE BIGGEST conference for trained librarians…. It’s really something Like you’re really going to market to US about how replaceable you find us. Interesting strategy
I won’t be at ALA this year but I kind of hope everyone who will be there makes Librar know they are marketing themselves at a conference that’s supposed to be for the very professionals they denigrate The Audacity

A7 I feel an ideal, but realistic one (ie schools should be able to meet) is: Annual book budget of $20-$30/student or $5000, whichever is more Database/tech budget of $10/student Also a budget for supplies & programming ($3-$10/student) & furniture budget at least every 10 yrs #tlskychat
💛📚 Q7: Budget Reality What does a (somewhat realistic) annual budget to sustain the dream library include? Share A7 with #TLSkyChat 👉 tlskychat.com
Mass produced books are consumables that cannot be stored indefinitely & do all need eventual disposal So, the famed “school/library’s dumpster full of books” photos that go viral every year are actually very normal, ok, & expected
What's something that experts/practitioners in your field universally agree upon, but that remains a "hot take" among the general public?
Just assigned The Librarians documentary to my grad class as required viewing. They need to know what they’re getting into & the film is a wonderful (though somewhat triggering for many of us - or me at least) introduction to the reality of the modern censorship crisis
Unbeknownst to each other, my partner, and I both ordered an edible arrangements for each other for Valentine’s Day. Though we had ordered them separately and not told each other they were both delivered today by the same delivery person. 😂😂
Were any of these commercials NOT riddled with AI? They are all so soulless & creepy looking. If this keeps up I’m going to stop remembering what real humans actually look like
I’m not into football/sports, but I watch the Super Bowl so my partner doesn’t watch it alone & so far it’s about what I expected: commercials about alcohol, online betting, and AI It’s hard for me to see this whole league as offering any kind of overall net positive to the world, if I’m honest.
I bought many extra copies of wuthering heights this year, for the library, because I’m very good at my job & accurately predicted a surge in interest in this book this year However I did not accurately predict the extent of the interest & all our copies are already checked out lol
But Hurricane Schwartz does & unfortunately he says we’re likely to have more than 6 weeks of winter & almost certainly more snow 😬
Spoiler, Phil doesn't have a great track record. 😏
My cute little Bridgerton inspired book display ❤️
Sigh. Another day, another unsuccessful hunt for recent YA books starring a boy main character in which romance is not a significant plot point for our school library My kingdom for YA books starring boy main characters dealing with family, academic, & economic pressures! My students want it!
A2: I’ve dimmed lights in the space by covering them with those cloth things, I organize the comfy chairs so there are some that are tucked away for solo sitters who need down time, & others in convo groupings for variety, I strive to offer variety of sensory activities & opportunities #TLskychat
💛📚 Q2: How do you intentionally design your library to support neurodivergent learners? Think spaces, routines, collections, expectations, or policies. 👉 Share A2 with #TLSkyChat 🔗 tlskychat.com
A1: it’s often quite informal really. I try to listen to what students say, both to me & what I overhear, & implement changes based on that. When students ask me directly “can you get X” or “can we have y” or can we do Z?” I try to say yes & accommodate that as much as possible #TLskychat
Here it is! Q1 for tonight’s #TLSkyChat! 💬 What does student voice look like in your library beyond surveys or suggestion boxes? How do students influence decisions, spaces, or programming? 🔗 More info: tlskychat.com
Ugh we have a 2 hour delay instead of schools closed tomorrow & I just don’t have the energy to go finish shoveling, we did two rounds yesterday & I am physically wrecked. Probably just gonna see if my car can just handle getting over the rest TBH 😂
Cheese Puff is currently #2 in line for the best “watching moms bath” spot, but our senior cat Pandora won’t let her have a turn 😂😂
Can’t wait to see how many episodes I can download onto my iPad today, just in case of power outages lol
I stopped at Home Depot to see if I could get some ice melt, they are of course totally sold out. But then I came home & found the two bags of ice melt I cleverly bought at the end of last winter for literally this exact eventuality! Good job, past-Kelsey!
I’m stuck in bed the next few days (sick) & bored, looking for suggestions of any mobile games ya’ll play & enjoy. Must be simple 😂 I don’t play any mobile games, so I have no starting point!
You know what’s annoying? When you need to find “It” by Stephen King in the library catalog but you can’t search by the title bcuz 10,000 books have the word “it” in the title so you need to search by the author & then SCROLL THROUGH 70 results until you find “it” <niche librarian struggle>
You ever just think “damn I’m good at my job?!” Because I do, pretty often 😂😂 (toot, toot) That feeling when, as a librarian, you were able to use some creative thinking & approaches to accomplish something for your staff or students is so exhilarating, & I did it 2 diff times this week!!

I have just done the “email the author to request a pdf copy of their article when you don’t otherwise have access” trick, for the first time. Wish me luck 😂
Finally decided to watch Derry Girls, and omg it is fecking hilarious 😂😂😂

Maturing is realizing that in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation the neighbors are the victims & Clark is the villain lol
Living in the Philly area we don’t get many white Christmases, which is a bummer since I grew up further north, where we usually did. So this is exciting!
Ok my smart friends, can you advise me when I take the red cap off of this and put it in the bottom of my chafing dish… do I close the silver cap thing over when the flame is on or is that what I do to put the flame out when I’m done?
