This turned out delicious: Dino kale (destemmed and chopped) with red cabbage, green onions, clementine segments, pepitas, cranberries, in a lemon-maple-olive oil vinaigrette

Mainer, from away. Database nerd by day, working in weed tech. Corgi fan, swimmer, quilter. I want to see pictures of your pets, your crafts, your houseplants.
I made a “house purse” this weekend. It’s a basket/tote/bag to carry the basic items you want to have at hand if you’re chillin in any area of your home. Mine has my planner, sketchbook, current hand sewing project, water bottle, fave pens, reading glasses. I love it.
Anemia sucks so bad that I feel basically superhuman now when I feel “normal” again Which I wish was all the time, but it ain’t. Rebuilding low ferratin is a big ole multi month project , even when it goes well, it seems Glad to feel it improving for sure
People keep sending me a link to an incredibly dumb Reddit post about patterns for writing database code today and I’m like, “thank you (?) for thinking of me when you read something really moronic”
I think I just had my peak tomato experience of the summer with an unassuming looking slicing tomato from a local farm store You never know from just looking at the outside if it’s gonna be a mind blowing tomato or not. This one was epic. Had it on an open faced cheeseburger with pickled onion.
I’ve been looking for different recipes for cooking chicken liver — working on getting my iron levels up and we have reasonably adventurous palates in our home. So far, TikTok has had the most interesting options. If you’ve a favorite recipe, I’d love to see it.
Yall, Dolly was too good for this world, but I was still hoping she’d live forever
Cooked 50/50 well-rinsed brown lentils and farro in a rice cooker on the multigrain setting with a bunch of taco seasoning powder and some bouillon powder + water (I just guess how much water and it’s always fine). It’s SO good in a burrito with salsa and cheese and avocado/ whatever other fixings.
Me when I started reviewing PRs recently: I feel bad just having criticisms and nitpicks for code Me after going through a few: I know you the human are smarter than that, but look at the mess these robots made! <BLASTS PR WITH SQUIRT GUN OF COMMENTS>
The most lovely family owned nursery is having a 50% off sale this weekend, it was my civic duty to get a haul of houseplants
Got a small humidifier for my plants and my husband was like “you brought WHAT into our home in August???” Ok fair point
One ugh about AI in dev processes is that I can submit a pr for something I know nothing about in front end code or a language I don’t know and it’s described with a detailed spec in a formal way. Which I don’t want— I want it to be clear and simply show how little I know to the reviewer, TBH
Why are we folding fitted sheets? They clearly do not consent
My delightful discovery today is that “Hair styling texture paste” is in fact *magical* for short hair Although the words “texture paste” leave a lot to be desired
Why is Susan Collins still in office? She’s even got the local news in her pockets, which are full of all those corrupt dollars from her lobbyist husband— who with true family values, she was screwing while his wife died of cancer. I am unsubscribing from @pressherald.com, you should, too.
7/30 Press Herald editor admits to changing a headline about Senator Collins supporting more money for the Iran War to make it friendlier to Senator Collins at her staffer’s request #maine #MEpolitics
Ending the day reading about politics after stepping in a puddle of pee as I went to clean up a poop on the floor I do love a theme
Today was not the day, but there’s always tomorrow.
Worth a read: heart attack symptoms appear differently for women than what are commonly described (which more closely follow men’s symptoms) www.theguardian.com/wellness/202...

I think this is true, but there is an exception when you're delighted that popular culture notices you at all. Whenever there's a nerd on a show who mentions a database -- Penelope from Criminal Minds, I'm looking at you -- I am there for it with popcorn, no matter how mangled the details.
I have a personal belief that the more a person is a nerd for something: dinosaurs, The Odyssey, etc, the less likely they are to enjoy a popular entertainment version of that thing.
I got a two completely unrelated things done today at work that I've wanted to accomplish for a while, but couldn't for one reason or another. So they've always remained on my mental list of Shit That Needs Fixed. FEELS. SO. GOOD.
I never imagined living in a time when it was obvious to everyone who the single worst human being on the planet is.
Local Job Lots store had some very nice and affordable shallow planters for succulents. I have some perlite and well draining succulent potting mix for these — not in the photo. Have finally figured out that I have being using potting soil that’s too high moisture for these over the years.
Today I learned that MaineHealth has a contract with *Palantir*. Thank you nurses for speaking up— I don’t want Palantir anywhere near MY data either.
7/24 Maine Medical Center nurses are calling on MaineHealth to end its contract with Palantir over the company's relationship with ICE and the use of its technologies in Mideast wars #maine #MEpolitics
Been dealing with fatigue lately— I think low iron has been part of it, yay aging. But have found that doing basic embroidery on clothes I already have is an amusing thing I can do even when I’m pretty zonked.
Behold my blueberry crop! We have one blueberry that has turned blue. Approximately 12 blueberries remain unripe. Hank for scale.
Scored some local Maine beans from a farm store. Soaked these and made a thick, rich soup, cooking them with tomatoes, shallots, lotsa garlic, and stock, finished with a handful of de-stemmed chopped kale and a good bit of citrus. We had beans with buttered sourdough toast on the deck, SO GOOD.
I voted in the delegate selection process for Maine Democrats to replace Platner on the upcoming ballot today. It was an easy, well run process. It looks like delegates committed to supporting Troy Jackson are being overwhelmingly selected so far.
cw: weight loss I've been taking tirzepatide (a GLP-1) for almost exactly two years now. Actual weight loss graph is jagged, but on average I've lost .76 pounds per week. I don't actively "diet" and I haven't excluded any foods, I have burgers, ice cream, fries if I want. The weird magic...
Woke up this morning to hubs saying, "This is not the headline you were hoping for, but it's still a good one." He'd seen an earlier version of this story: www.theguardian.com/news/2026/ju...

Made a quick tuna casserole that turned out great: Heat oven 350F Cook 1 box chickpea rotini pasta per package instructions (don’t skip rinsing) Return to pan, stir in 1/3 c cream cheese, 1/3 c nonfat Greek yogurt, 1/4 c green tomatillo salsa. Stir till lumps disappear. Add 1.5 cans tuna, stir.
