Casey Kasem’s Top 40 Countdown radio outtakes are a NSFW bit of Americana that I hope never pass out of memory, so here’s my bit to make sure their legend persists…

I absolutely loved my editor at Dark Horse, without whose tireless & skillful work neither GO TEAM VENTURE nor THE ART OF DUCKTALES would exist. They deserve every benefit, protection, & appreciation for their vital role in the process of realizing incredible projects with their fellow coworkers…

Dark Horse Comics’ beloved Senior Editors have insisted on joining our union, DHWU! In response, Dark Horse management has threatened the Senior Editors with a demotion and severe pay cut unless they accept supervisory status and abandon their union eligibility.

We’ve forgotten how to Television. We’ve forgotten how to Movie. We’ve forgotten how to Publish. We’ve forgotten how to *Advertise*. Marketing departments were demolished & their tasks assigned to social media departments who offloaded to influencers - who are only advertisers for themselves.

Like… no, seriously: have we forgotten how to Television, as a culture? Because it feels like we've forgotten how to Television.

HERE ARE A BUNCH OF FREE HYPHENS: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - IT’S “SPIDER-MAN” NOT "SPIDERMAN", YOU MONSTERS. WITH A HYPHEN. ... ... It's okay. I'm okay. It's fine. I'm fine... IT'S SPIDER-MAN!

Folks love superheroes! And folks love hot dogs! A few years back, inspired by Chip Zdarsky’s legendary contribution to the Spider-Man canon, I figured why not combine the two for the ultimate condiment featuring everyone’s favorite webspinner... SPIDER-MAN KETCHUP!‬

Picture of a packet of Spider-Man Ketchup, featuring an image of Spider-Man eating a ketchup-smothered hot dog and delivering the iconic Chip Zdarsky-penned line, “It’s hot dog icing!”

I approach new film adaptations of comic books (when there have been previous versions) in the same way I look at comics when a new artist/writer takes over - As long as the story's engaging, I’ll roll with any new interpretation. Even bizarre ones. It's my Chip Zdarsky’s Ketchup Spider-Man Rule.

Spider-Man page by Chip Zdarsky, one side depicting Spider-Man saving a food cart operator from an attack by Venom and Scorpion, and the panel beside it depicting sometime after the attack, with Spider-Man perched atop the restored cart, enjoying a hotdog, waxing poetic to the vendor below:

"--KETCHUP IS THE BASE LAYER. IT HAS TO BE. IT'S HOT DOG ICING! CAN YOU CALL A CAKE A CAKE WITHOUT ICING? NO AND CAN YOU CALL A HOT DOG A HOT DOG WITHOUT KETCHUP? I SAY NO. UNLESS YOU'RE ALLERGIC TO TOMATOES OR SOMETHING. I DON'T WANT TO DIMINISH THE HOT DOG EXPERIENCE OF SOMEONE WHO CAN'T PHYSICALLY ENJOY THEM AS GOD INTENDED. I MEAN, LIKE I WOULDN'T CALL A VEGGIE DOG ANYTHING OTHER THAN A HOT DOG, Y'KNOW? BUT IT WOULD STILL HAVE TO HAVE KETCHUP. HEY, CARL. DO YOU COOK THOSE ONES ON A SEPARATE PART OF THE GRILL? I GUESS YOU HAVE TO, EH? NEVER TRIED ONE OF THOSE... MAYBE THAT'LL BE TOMORROW'S DOG?"

I see lots of SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY praise for director Destin Daniel Cretton, the cast, Feige, & more - but no mention of writers Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, who are a consistent element of all 4 films & responsible for a great deal of why they work as well as they do. PROPS TO THE WRITERS.

Speaking of the transformative nature of a bombastic horn section, this live version of The Kinks’ “Village Green Preservation Society” from 1973 is another example of elevating an already iconic song…

This They Might Be Giants TONIGHT SHOW performance of "Birdhouse In Your Soul" from 1990 remains firmly lodged in my noggin thanks to the Tonight Show Band's full commitment and Doc Severinsen's incredible trumpeting... It took an already great song and made it transcendent.
