Late to this - as per usual - but what an incredible film. The ratcheting up of tension again and again. No spoilers but the climax is almost an anticlimax after such a build up. In my head Dorothy Vallens life has taken a turn to become Sister Agnes - played perfectly by Isabella Rossellini 👌

Saw a beautiful sight last night. An enormous slug was on our kitchen step (that's not the beautiful bit) and suddenly one of my fave little oval shadows crept lowdown past the step. Stopped, little nose sniffing the air and then pawed down the slug for a late night feast 🖤 *not that hog

Thinking of expanding my weekend to also include Monday - probably an age thing tbh 😄 - not as an “I only drink at the weekend but funnily enough…”

Hope you’re having a great weekend? Me I’m sat at home watching the mighty Wolves on the iPad after promising no swearing to my lovely partner. Flipping heck, it’s not the same 😆

Wellness wotsits and some artists will never give up on the left brain v right brain myth will they? It seems once an idea is planted and a person is invested in that being a part of their identity it's game over, no amount of evidence will shift it? Whichever part of my brain (BOTH) thought that 😄

Perfect summary of her character here from Isabella Rossellini, and what an incredible film 🖤 There’s a kind of optimism to the 90s interviews that I feel was lost later on. Understandably. Why do we often revere great work long after it’s released?

In approaching Blue Velvet, and the part of nightclub singer Dorothy Vallens, Isabella Rossellini points to aspects of Lynch rarely discussed in the heat of such debates: A lot of people thought it was sick, but for me it always represented the research in David of the good and the bad. He's quite a religious person.
Quite spiritual. Any person who is religious is always trying to define these things, which are always so elusive. I think that's the core of his film-making:
Her own interpretation of Vallens's sado-masochistic nature is of interest for its basis in certain 'real situations - something she never discussed in detail with Lynch. 'In my mind she was a battered woman - someone who perhaps had Stockholm Syndrome. But you can't play that literally. David's films are more of a sensation than a story. They're not anthropological or psychological researches into character. They're surreal impressions. Things are very tran-scendental. Blue Velvet has to do with a profound moral dilemma. That's why the story is surreal. Dorothy masks herself because she is afraid of what she looks like. She's shy and hates herself. The wigs and the make-up and everything was because she wanted to look like a doll - perfect - to hide ner madness. The more she becomes a victim not to elicit sexuality, the more she does. I played her that way: everything she did turned out to be something she didn't mean!'

Our cinema in Bridgnorth with art deco plasterwork details. Built in 1937 and due to be knocked down in the next few years. I understand that a lot of the interior will be saved for a new build two screen cinema🤞 And the film wasn’t so bad either, The Odyssey.

Up earlier than usual this morning to see breakfast tv blaring away. Chriiiiist, who is that aimed at 😳 Off now of course but still, that was full on “get the nation spluttering over their cornflakes” nonsense 🙃

Kind of sad to not have the Commonwealth Games on my TV this time around but fuck Larry Ellison and MAGA And fuck everyone on the Commonwealth games media team who thought this was a good idea 👇

Just read someone saying that wind turbines “throw out asbestos” and I have no answer other than this… 😳 p.s. I Googled, as you do and it seems that YES traces of asbestos have been found INSIDE some brake housings. INSIDE CAROL

What are the best online resources for newly self-discovered trans women? Regarding basically everything (I am out of date on where to go for good info)

What are the scenes that you wish you’d captured in a photo? I once saw a young mother throwing her baby up into the air as she laughed. The baby wasn’t enjoying it anywhere near so much, and suddenly with no warning whatsoever the baby projectile vomited straight into the woman’s mouth. Beautiful ❤️

Willy Nilly the postman moment this morning when our regular postie (who is brilliant incidentally) handed over a letter to my partner and said there’s your season ticket 😆 It had the Wolves logo on so I dare say he delivered a few of those today 🤣

Thought I couldn’t cringe any further so left the room for the US national anthem, walked back in and there was Robbie Williams in a sparkly tracksuit 😆😆🤣

I love York, hard to believe almost three years flew by since we dropped off the youngest. Back from graduation weekend ❤️ Final photo had the whole family wondering what I was up to but you know “we’re living in a dream…” #brutalist #york

The upside of cyclosporiasis is that we can all remember how to spell diarrhoea. (Additional o for the UK 😄) I’m staying away from lettuce for a bit too just in case, even if those parasites are 3,000+ miles away. Don’t take any chances!
