I love finding colour-ringed birds as it feels like I'm helping with real science. Today I found 2 C-R Curlews amongst a flock of 20 on the Glaslyn Estuary. Amazingly, I saw U7 last October in nearly the same field. HP is a special find (see note from T.Cross, ringer). @birdsinwales.bsky.social

So Bill Oddie has left us.😢 There won't be many birders, especially of my generation who haven't read his Little Black Bird Book, or indeed his other books. And then there was The Goodies and I'm sorry, I'll read that again, just so much fun! Thanks for all the laughs Bill.

Saddened by the news our friend Bill Oddie has passed away. We spent many happy days birding with Bill on his beloved Fair Isle and here in Shetland and his books in the 1980s inspired us and a generation of young birders. Since then he has inspired millions to appreciate nature. A true legend.
