My tweak to the process was dropping the yearbook-style photos and having people dress as they liked. Then photographer Cheryl Gerber would have them get silly, animated, whatever. So much more approachable.

Remember when these jamokes thought they were going to open their crap donut shop across from Café DuMonde? And their logo was a damn GOLLIWOG? I think the universal reaction was “Take that shit back to Portland” and they scrammed.

Now they have a shop in Tempe that has zero waiting time and the doughnuts are still not good. Was it the pink boxes that made people willing to wait two hours? Will taking away the scarcity be their demise?
