This is the highest-resolution view of the surface of the Sun. Ever. Taken by the NSF's Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope, features as small as 19 km across can be resolved. The wispy things are magnetic field boundaries formed by Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities. The island of Ireland for scale.

While I was in New Hampshire recently, I found this nifty rock right in my in-law's backyard. I think it's a form of quartz monzodiorite* with big microcline crystals. Lots of time in the deep crust gave it abundant almandine garnet and sphene.

Another chunk of 1.2 Ga anorthosite/leucogabbro from the Anorthosite-Syenite-Gabbro Complex in Los Angeles' San Gabriel Mountains. It has these big chunky andesine or labradorite crystals.
