Congratulations Dr. El-Sayed! The handwringing is tiresome. Of course he needs opponent voters' support. That's the case for most/all primaries. He won on a platform of money out of politics/back to the people and Medicare for all - despite an onslaught of attack $$ - all popular Democratic issues!

So 2026. A Native American tribe built a billion dollar casino resort next to the airport in Incheon, South Korea, and South Korean citizens are not allowed to gamble in it. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/04/w...
How the Mohegan Tribe Lost a Billion-Dollar Casino in South Korea
Inspire Entertainment Resort — an alternative to Macau, the world’s gambling capital — was supposed to be a “transformational” project for the Native American tribe.

We're using City-owned land to build the affordable homes New Yorkers need.
I haven't watched The Odyssey but one critique I've read resonates with what I felt about Oppenheimer - that that movie's particular focus on the protagonist turns a massive and complex state effort and world historical atrocities into a story of personal genius and struggle of one man.
New Yorkers: Tonight's forecast calls for potentially life-threatening flooding, especially for those living in basement apartments and neighborhoods that have flooded before.
Thinking of folks in Kumamoto and surrounding regions in Japan after the massive earthquake today. This is a country so relatively well prepared for disasters and yet you can't quite predict everything that can happen during these big ones.
Critical analysis notwithstanding, I do love a constructed urban nature.
I'm not even rooting against Argentina at this point I am rooting against FIFA
Of course, it's impossible to pick one representative image of urban life in Japan. But if I could, it might be something like this. From a regional JR train, at a station I don't remember, somewhere between Hiroshima and Saijo. #urbanlandscape
Football is political whether we like it or not. We love the game but it's absurd to try to ignore the history and the power structures. Every four years the world comes together in passion and a kind of wrenching celebration because of the history and power structures not in spite of it.
Everyone's talking about the World Cup but how about Alexandra Eala and Shintaro Mochizuki at Wimbledon!! 🎾🎾
I follow the World Cup partly for the beautiful game (sans the diving and the stutter steps) and partly for the postcolonial peoples' uprising, whether from the banlieues or the Congo River.
Again, postcolonial nations rise! Congratulations to Morocco, such a football force. Sorry for the Netherlands. I was in Rotterdam during the 2014 World Cup and it was pretty electric in the streets. Oranje is an excellent color.
World Cup takes: postcolonial nations rise! - Dembélé is amazing - multicountry hosts is cool but carbon footprint oof - football is a cultural geography of the urban periphery - Japan will beat Brazil. ⚽💙🔥
So thrilled for Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, and Cabo Verde, just crushing it in this World Cup.
Not saying so many other countries are doing way better, but we in the US have a fucked way of doing politics and policy.
Trump abruptly canceled the signing of a housing affordability bill, insisting that Congress first pass an elections bill that mandates voter ID
Wow! So excited for Claire Valdez and Darializa Avila Chevalier and Brad Lander and for Mayor Mamdani's vision for New York! Here's to just housing, anti-imperialism, and freedom for oppressed peoples. ✊
Today I signed an Executive Order for every worker exposed to extreme heat on the job. It requires multilingual heat safety guidance for workers, a review of construction site heat safety practices, and heat illness prevention plans at every mayoral agency.
Again, look at all these Black and brown kids of immigrants killing it for the Netherlands, Germany, France, and the US in the World Cup. ⚽🔥
I may be too tired to show it but I'll never not be thrilled by a Shinkansen ride. #japan #urbanlandscape #新幹線
