See if you're a second generation immigrant through one parent and you spend meaningful time back in that ancestral homeland every year as a kid, bound up in a wide extended family of people from that place, you really do have a legitimate claim on its culture which is obviously part of who you are.

Someone on BBC news on the radio there talking about how one of the venues to have cancelled Macklemore for alleged antisemitism has still booked Kanye, and describing this apparent hypocrisy as 'confusing.' But it is not confusing.

Leave Strange Currencies Finest Worksong Losing My Religion E-Bow The Letter Been listening to a lot of REM today, and, having thought about this for about 10 minutes, those are their 5 best songs. Cheers, God bless x

All I'm saying is if I was a CEO in a massively inflated industry bubble widely predicted to be approaching bursting, I too would prefer people to understand that as a conscious slowing in order to manage the unstoppable awesome potential of my product.

Memory is a funny thing. Schools may have different policies. But there were generally not early school closures in Scotland that day, including in Glasgow & East Ren, and the first plane didn't hit until 1.46pm UK time. She may have had a uniquely prescient heidie.

A helpful key here for understanding what wingnuttery is and how it works, here. I 100% guarantee you this did not happen and that the boys she’s talking about - she later clarified they were “Pakistani” - do not exist. And yet, I can also assure you Eve is *absolutely convinced* she saw this.

On 9/11, school was dismissed at noon. My mother came to collect me because the school bus wasn't running. We went home and watched the television all day and all night. The next day I returned to school. Everyone was sad except a certain group of young boys in the corner of my form class. They were celebrating like it was the greatest day of their lives. I will never forget.

Have seen it suggested that Nigel Farage should have held off on the massive donation due to the timing and bad PR. Think he quite reasonably might have looked at his career-long PR record in the British press and elected to take his chances with the 36 million quid tbh

Not suggesting for a second that aggro fans were in the right. I remember seeing Celtic fans - in response to the stories of violence - sharing a clip of Shankland pushing the fans in his face and thinking that I didn't mind it from Shankland at all tbh

I see Pat Nevin has apologised for wrongly claiming that Hearts players were assaulted on the pitch by Celtic fans after last season's title deciding match. Wonder if others who did the same will follow suit, including Heart of Midlothian's celebrated 29% shareholder Tony Bloom.

Easy to impose this kind of narrative in hindsight but one thing I think of about 9-11 is how it was the first early marker for my generation that things were about to Get Shitter in a way that would define the world we would step into

Huh. It seems that writing this post has filled me with an enormous felt sense of that period of time being History, and of the covid pandemic that sits between then and now being the most significant historical rupture of my lifetime since, well, 9-11

What does "hipsters" mean here? Like... men with moustaches? Drinking flat whites? Riding fixed gear bikes? On their way to the Fleet Foxes show? In 2015? What do you mean David Lammy? What do you mean!

The radical print tour reawakened the city for me - there’s so much thrilling history all around us, masquerading normal buildings, but they’re all! hiding!! secrets!!! Anyway sign up, have a wee walk, and help Category Is fundraiser for shutters so nobody can pan their windows in again.

Beloved local bookshop Category Is had their window smashed at the weekend; we are running a fundraiser with all ££ going to help them get shutters. One off mashup of two popular tours, Queer Glasgow and Radical Print Cultures. Tickets £20-£25-£30 if you fancy it! www.eventbrite.com/e/queer-glas...

We have been right for decades and they have been wrong, while we have been lied to. As ever, plenty opportunity for I told you so. A place for insisting on recognition that will never come. The real task is to keep being right and keep pushing. They're still wrong - and lying - on so much else.

It's tempting to dismiss the government's revised stance on the West Bank; to point to the grotesque hypocrisies, the absurd lateness, the exasperating inadequacy. But doing only this would fail to credit the resilience and persistence of the solidarity movement with what is a significant victory.

I know they are a very real and growing danger and I'm genuinely not seeking to diminish any of that, this is chilling, but it also cannot be ignored how cringe fascists are. "I studied the blade" wankers
