in other news a fancy restaurant near me is now advertising a "girl dinner" snacking mezze and all i can say is, our culture is not your costume,
in the noughties if you wanted to feel actualised politically (or in almost any way tbh) you needed to commit to maintaining a space for that thing that necessarily meant you had to hang out with people and get along with them even if you didn't like them very much
How health technology is replacing care with surveillance Surveillance technology in health and social care like Oxevision is intrusive, coercive and not fit for purpose, and much of its development links to warfare. Why is it being commissioned, and where could we find alternatives?

How can we fully support people and communities holistically? How can we see them as more than customers to be sold or rented software? We help communities build and own their means of production. More of the manifesto will unfold over this week, but you can read it in full below
The Geeks for Social Change Manifesto v1.0
GFSC's goal is “help people use technology to do community stuff”. Today we're launching our manifesto for building this real world impact: shared infrastructure over products, capability over deficit...

thankyou so much for having me, my quest to expose everyone to anarchist literature is going well i see 😅
A lovely gathering in Macclesfield last night for @macctech.bsky.social. Hearing from @kim.town on how we’ve lost our focus in community in tech, and sharing the NION women story with a compassionate crowd was encouraging. Thanks to MyCWA and MaccPride for convening such a warm crowd 💜
if you're ever in any doubt about the labour party's commitment to white patriarchy, remember they could have picked literally anyone in the country to fast track to PM and they picked... andy burnham, with seemingly zero consideration to other options
This has been a big penny drop for me on Starmer's psyche. I think starmer assumed when he got in that he was the next Blair, a generational PM who would leave a lasting legacy. He's turned out to be a useless drone but the cognitive dissonance must be killing him observer.co.uk/news/politic...

How GFSC plans to sustainably fund community infrastructure
My last post we explained what GFSC does and why. Now the practical bit: how do we actually pay for it? And to answer that, we need to talk about something we've lost: shared distribution.

Our vision for the ‘community’ in community technology
Our goal is to help community organisations do things together rather than individually. Each project is a different expression of that. Read our plan to build shared community infrastructure.

what if we just reframed al the specific anti- X / amazon / google / microsoft / palantir et al. activism as simply the don't rent software from paedophiles campaign feels like that should work across the board?
Incredibly disappointing from @theproudtrust.bsky.social, who took away our only non profit queer space in the city centre and now are evicting grassroots organisers who are trying to reinstate it. Without this, The Proud Place isn't an LGBT community centre, it's an office space with gay branding.
