Just wrote 500 words about the Buddhist exorcism - Cầu Siêu ritual - I observed at the site of the My Lai Massacre and now I feel like a proper anthropologist (minus the suffocating theory...so maybe I don't feel like an anthropologist after all...😑)
I see Trump is now fully embracing the logic of colonial violence. The same guy who first ran for president with a story about using pig's blood against Muslims - which just so happens to be a colonial technique as well... (Sometimes I wish my scholarship was less relevant)
Did Jason Arday run 600 miles in 6 days (later corrected to 12) *and* completed 30 marathons in 35 days (the last part of which was completed with a hairline fracture, caused by a fall due to epileptic seizure, that made one of his legs swell to double size) - or is this the same event?
Your daily reminder that colonial violence is, by definition, performative. Which is not to say that it's not also lethal...
Dr. Samantha Hancox-Li@sjshancoxli.liberalcurrents.com · 4d agoI was waiting for the neuro divergence to be used as a justification, which imo is really problematic (regardless of the merits of the claim). But it's also incompatible with the subsequent argument that everyone makes such 'mistakes'.

Emma Yeomans@yeomans.bsky.social · 5d agoSignificantly, he only received one proper supervision session in 2.5 years. Most other contact with his supervisor was by text, some by phone. One of the two other academics assigned to supervise him left the university and he never met the other.
If you didn't write it, quotation marks and a reference are necessary. It's that simple...

The film centers Odysseus's guilt over his war crimes, but never shows us the POV of his victims, and instead glorifies the perpetrator for feeling bad about himself. I found this unsatisfying ethically and worse, imaginatively, because Damon's character is given only one mood (Troubled).

Why is it that no-one can get the number of civilians killed during the My Lai Massacre right? It's *not* 'between 347 and 504'. 347 is the number established by the US Army investigation for My Lai (4) alone, while 504 is the total number of Vietnamese civilians killed in several villages that day
