In collaboration with Nature, I investigated the impact of the Trump administration on US science one year after its return to office. More than 7800 research grants were cancelled or frozen, affecting ~25000 scientists and research staff and resulting in an ~US$32 billion in lost research funding.

#Introduction: Over the past decade, I have been visualizing data from mathematical concepts, social constructs, cultural phenomena, historical settings to imaginations of the universe. I am a professor at the Film University Babelsberg and principal at the metaLAB Harvard and FU Berlin. 📊

The advent of Large Language Models (LLMs) has revolutionized natural language processing and understanding.The research project »POST_NETWORKS« conducts a series of aesthetic experiments visualizing the traces of network algorithms.
Post Networks reimagines the web away from the division of space toward the composition of the surface. What if what matters is not the network, but the spaces in-between? While lines emerge from the movement of points, surfaces emerge from the motion of lines through time. Space becomes occupied by the afterglow of repulsion and attraction. Not the network, but its past movement becomes present. Time collapses in a constant redrawing of the surface the network separated.Cosmologists say that most of the universe is structured by antimatter. We postulate that social media is similarly structured by effects of the unobserved discourse and experience. The backbone of a movement such as #MeToo is not based on the most-liked and most-retweeted, but by the masses of unobserved tweets. Vast numbers of #MeToo tweets that had no retweets and no likes nonetheless constituted acts of quiet testimony or unassuming solidarity. Conventional measures of network science thus fail to capture the true relevance of #MeToo.
