To all the MTG artists who still own the right to their work: The problem with Hasbro is that they bought into a hobby game community with no understanding of what a community is. The people who make D&D, the people who made MTG made it for themselves, their friends and people like them meaning fellow gamers. It was about shared experience and having fun together. I cannot speak on the business of D&D but I very much can soeak on the business of MTG. Artists were hired and treated as important and vaulable members of the community. It was the goal fo the compant that those artists should see a benefit from the work they did long term. After all, they helped create the game in a very meaningful way. That is why royalties were paid and meant to be paid for the life of the game whenever that art was used. Then the suits came in. These people were not part of the community, they were not part of the hobby and all they wanted was to profit from the hard work and vision of thers. Royalties went away so empathy imared wuits could take the money instead. New art was sommissioned so royalties would no longer have to be paid. It was a giant FU to all the people who made the game what it is from a visual standpoint. It gets worse.

I do understand: you want permission. There's a machine in the corner wrapped in human skin that makes things out of shit and blood to look like whatever you want (as long as you don't look too closely). You gave one to your teacher and they didn't notice. Your boss told you to use it after they laid off half the team and it was fine. You fed one to your kids and they liked it. You want to know you can use it sometimes without me thinking less of you. You don't need me to believe it's useful, you just want me to be polite about it.

But I am a hater, and I will not be polite. The machine is disgusting and we should break it. The people who build it are vapid shit-eating cannibals glorifying ignorance. I strongly feel that this is an insult to life itself.
