Great explainer article and one I e been looking for. I still struggle with going along with the AI boom. I can definitely see the benefits of coding assistants in my own work, but really wrestle with the impacts.

How much water do data centers really use, why do they use so much, and is it a problem? I talked to researchers and industry experts to understand the true water footprint of the AI boom: Gift link: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Depicting Jewish people with horns is a centuries-old, dehumanizing, antisemitic trope. Democratic Gov nominee Phil Weiser is outspoken about his mother’s birth in a Nazi concentration camp, his family members killed in the Holocaust, and the threat posed by antisemitism today.

So that happened today. Checked the neighboring stations and it falls in line. My PWS is only 5 years old so this all time high has some caveats. Still, that’s not what I had in mind when I moved here.

NEW: In a stunning admission, the Trump administration admitted in court documents that it canceled billions in energy grants to states "based solely" on politics -- and whether that state was represented by Democrats and backed Harris in 2024. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/24/b...

Trump Administration Admits Canceling Grants to States That Did Not Vote for Him

Federal officials said in court documents that they halted billions of dollars in funding for energy projects to states “based solely” on whether they backed President Trump in the 2024 election.

A really nice example of “enshittification” produced by AI. Received an email stating my insurance coverage was going to be automatically increased because they “identified” a new attached deck (if I take no action). We installed a dirt/sand pad w/ railroad ties for play. Wasting 30+ mins of my day.

Email saying that my property insurance will be adjusted (increased) because they “identified” and attached deck. We installed a dirt/concrete pad enclosed by railroad ties for a play area and they want to increase my coverage by nearly $5k. I suspect this is another wonderful application of AI applied to satellite surveillance of my house. So now I need to waste 30+ minutes of my day tracking down and refuting a bogus claim and if I don’t, they just get away with the increase. A really nice example of “enshittification” produced by AI.

My sister is an administrator for a small business rural mental health hospital that serves the county. She’s damn good & has a great balance of compassion & getting things done. I, OTOH, am trying not to lose my 💩 when my toddler won’t eat his scrambled eggs & my 4-year-old throws his fork

Thought experiment- if you were suddenly appointed to do your sibling’s job, how badly would you suck at it?
