Another great idea of where to place solar panels. Using them to create shade is "stacking functions" - a key strategy in permaculture design. Where you place things can either be wasteful or highly efficient, especially if it can then perform more than one service.

Paris has only made car use more efficient (not banned) and increased ease of using other options and people chose other options, and got a reward - less pollution, better health.
“Air pollution fell substantially as Paris restricted car traffic and made way for parks, people-streets and bike-lanes.” Better for the climate, better for health, better for livability and quality of life. Common sense. Such a no-brainer, it’s remarkable that more cities HAVEN’T done the same.

A really excellent reason to transition to regenerative agriculture/agroecology. Much more resilient! It will take effort, creativity, and work but the outcomes are so much better than not doing it. Worth it on every level! All indicators point to backing away from fossil fuels.

This trend will only continue -renewable energy gets cheaper, fossil fuels gets more expensive. The technology continues to improve and there is a lot more upside potential to it. Combine with walkable neighborhoods/cities for maximum quality of life improvements.
Forget "total cost of ownership." In the UK, the average EV is now cheaper than the average ICE vehicle, up front. Sticker cost. And of course the savings just keep accumulating after that.
While I haven't read the study, burning wood should not be considered a "renewable" energy, imo. The only way it should be burned is gasification/biochar production with biochar used to capture carbon long term. Even then, the design needs to be net benefit on multiple fronts, including ecosystems.

When you really look at what's going on in some agroforestry systems, it's astonishing how well designed they are. Some oases are many hundreds of year old, producing food that entire time with minimal care. Work with nature, not against her.
So I went down a rabbit hole on oases & they are way cooler than you thought Oases are so much more than just 'water places in a desert'. They're agroforestry systems where humans have used date palm groves to create micro-climates where fruit trees & crops can grow to permit intensive agriculture
Just to balance out the idea of solar panels on parking lots... The times I've lived in bikeable/walkable neighborhoods are some of the most pleasurable memories of my life. Can't say enough about that lifestyle. Would much rather be able to safely bike than drive and park.

In Central America, fast growing high protein trees like Gliricidea are used for living fence posts, and trimmed (pollarded) yearly to feed animals enclosed by the fences. Fence posts are created by sticking branches in the ground that root. Fodder trees can also create shelter belts, hedges, etc.
