Spent a decade saying Nintendo should bring back King K. Rool until fans voted him into the best-selling fighting game of all time. Now vibing as Nintendo rolls out what's next for the Donkey Kong series. "King K. Rool is back in action!” 🐊🍌🦍

It was eight years ago today that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate faked us out by having King Dedede dress up as K. Rool. I turned the Direct off in anger. I’ve never played a video game since! Oh, if only they had brought K. Rool back for real. Alas, he’s just not relevant to modern Nintendo.

Eight years ago, King K. Rool came aboard in Smash Ultimate, in a reveal that wouldn’t just pay off a decade-long fan kampaign, but give a global stage to everything we loved about him from his home series all along — and inform his return back to it in Bananza’s glorious finale. Happy Aug. 8, all!

For a brief time through the late 1990s, Dixie Kong’s family low-key just took over the Donkey Kong series, didn’t they?

The only thing that could pacify you right now? Unlocking the Kiddy Kong statue in Donkey Kong Bananza. Bobbing for Baubles, a week-long Emerald Rush event that rewards players with a DK Coin statue and Kiddy statue back on DK Island, is now live! And in three weeks, get ready for a Lagoon Dash!

It’s been a full year since Donkey Kong Bananza’s release, and I still regularly find myself getting the warm and fuzzies thinking back to my first playthrough. EPD was always going to make a technical marvel, but I had no idea any game still could give me feelings like that to my (planet) core.
