Disempowering large, central sources of truth like mass media and government is probably good in the long run but we're in an anarchic atomization of truth that's not great to live through even if it's probably unavoidable.

Invisible floating points are a menace. I didn't have all the cells in one column set to currency, so the calculations done on them came out about a dollar off. There's definitely never been a movie plot based on this.

A long time ago, in an IRC channel far away, I mentioned I was learning C++. Someone said: "I wish I could still learn stuff. I'm too old." I asked how old he was. We were the same age. I hope his attitude changed in the years since because 18 sure is early to decide you can't learn anything.

It was sad watching artists rip down years, decades even, of web galleries full of comments and stats and proof of life before generative AI just to reupload it with some sketchy anti-AI overlay applied. Training methods mooted it almost instantly, and the damage to art history is permanent.

I promise I won't retaliate against all the people who were like "lol why doesn't the south just spend billions maintaining snow preparedness for 48 hours of snow every 2-3 years" when they're struggling with heat they aren't prepared for from my heat pumped, sealed, and insulated palace.

Mass culture had problems. We were just used to them and largely took them for granted. Atomic culture for a century or two will do us some good. I think having a million different, isolated incubators for new ideas is good, but some people do miss things having mass appeal.

It's 2016. u-he's free synths make it easy to put good sound to my amateurish melodies. It's 2026. u-he's free synths make it easy to put good sound to my amateurish melodies on Linux.

The kind of people who deserve launching into the sun are unworthy of the monumental project of doing it. Better to much more cheaply hurl them into the cold, endless vacuum left in Sol's wake.

If you're looking for your first audio recorder and think "I don't need one with XLR inputs," think again. I thought that with my zoom h2n back in 2018 and wish I'd spent a little more on one with at least one input.

I remember being anti-feminist until I finally listened to all the friends telling me to read bell hooks and Judith Butler. I realized anti-feminists/MRAs are rank amateurs in their criticism of feminism next to Black and queer feminists.

It's hard enough questioning what we believe about ourselves. Questioning what we believe about others is another much harder level. A recurring issue I see is people who've done the work on gender and sexuality re: their own experience fail to do that work with their beliefs about other identities.
