On the indie discourse… I never wanted to work at Apple—I know, who am I to think I could, etc—because I always dreamed of slowly building up to full-time indie dev. I obviously never committed to it, and now I have to live with the regret that I took neither road in a yellow wood. So it goes.

It is popular to make fun of Musk's AI-that-writes-machine-code thing but I don't see why it obviously is false. What is the limiting principle? Why can't you define a reward function around correctness and performance? Why can't synthetic training data be generated at arbitrary scale?

I am going to become a fitness influencer and my whole bit is just that you need to do everything in your power to be able to touch your toes. If you can touch your toes you're healthy enough. If you can't you should strive to be able to.

We don't need to be upset about everything. Words are abstractions for communicating ideas. It seems like many people intuitively know what "forward-deployed" means, so it's a good fit. I didn't even know it was a military thing and I have used it. It's a good fit.

There are so many bad trends in tech, but maybe one of the worst is people who write (or used to write, pre-LLMs) code describing themselves "forward-deployed" when they mean that they work at a client site, based on wanting to emulate military jargon so it sounds like they're going to kill people.

What is the German word for having watched a bunch of middle-aged men suddenly profess interest in Sophie Cunningham, supposedly because she pointed, while knowing that she is a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model and an extremely mid white WNBA player? Eugh.

I went with my parents to a pizza place. When we were done I went to the bathroom. I came out, flagged down the kid behind the counter, whispered to him, and showed him to the bathroom. Then I ushered my family out of the restaurant without bussing our table. They thought I clogged the toilet.
