Me trying to get out of jury duty: yes your honor, if I had to sit on this jury I would deprive thousands of people of highly important plane crash content Judge: This does not meet the legal definition of extreme hardship (this post is a work of fiction, jury duty sadly is real)
Just another quick progress update: I'm already on to the next project, which is Hop-a-Jet flight 823! This is a much more normal sized project, so I expect that the article will be out before the end of August. I'm looking forward to sharing this crazy story with you!

A draft of the DCA midair article has been completed, totaling just under 50,000 words. I'll now go into the final editing/revision phase and distribute it to some SMEs for beta-reading. Public release should occur by Wednesday the 29th!
Kenmore Air confirmed that everyone on board survived!
Hoping everyone's okay, Kenmore Air is a local fixture in Seattle, I saw their planes all the time when I was living there.

The final report on Voepass flight 2283, which crashed in August 2024 killing all 62 aboard, has been released: sistema.cenipa.fab.mil.br/cenipa/pagin... It'll be a few months before I can do an article on it, but it will happen. For now, some takeaways. (Thread)

Regarding the recent low flyover of a crowd of beachgoers at the Pensacola Air Show, which has received post-facto approval by high officials. The military's attitude that they have total airspace priority in peacetime is something I'm mentioning in my upcoming article as a threat to public safety.
When military aircraft conduct low level passes over civilian areas in defiance of regulations, they are not only ignoring military rules but civilian regs as well. And when military pilots thinks civilian flight regs do not apply them, then we have a big National Air System flight safety problem.
K2 Airways #KTA1732 is reportedly missing. Preliminary ADS-B data indicate a possible crash of the 737-400 freighter in the sea southwest of Karachi. flightradar24.com/blog/flight-...
My brother told me this morning that he had a dream in which England were up 3-2 over Mexico after 76 minutes so I will keep you posted if he dreams about any lottery numbers
Argentina 3 - 2 Cabo Verde was hands down one of the best games of football I've ever watched. Cabo Verde played like it was the final. They looked just as good on the pitch as Argentina, playing like a world class team. Mad respect. I love the world cup
If anyone wants to say hi in person, I'll be at SF pride tomorrow! I'll be wearing the same dress and hat as the pic. Bring airplane questions

For my upcoming DCA midair article, I've written nearly 5,000 words about slot controls and arrival rates alone, and I'm not even done with that topic yet
I might have spent the entire day today looking at spreadsheets of DCA slots and traffic count data...
Outlining the structure of my Potomac Mid-Air article is challenging because it's not an event chain, it's an event web, and every part is so dependent on the other parts, it's like an informational ouroboros where no one component can be explained without explaining the others first.
I owe y'all an update on the Potomac midair article. I currently have over 50 pages (12 pt. font, single spaces) of notes, meaning a final article length at least 20% longer than that. I'll start drafting this week, though I'm still only half way through the 30 hours of NTSB hearing footage...
Not my wheelhouse but this is horrific and needs more attention than it's getting. The safety nets that protect workers in many industries across America have been under unprecedented pressure in recent years. It's not just aviation.
A second person has died from injuries suffered when a chemical tank ruptured at a Washington state paper mill, raising the presumed death toll to 11, authorities said Wednesday.
New Mentour Pilot video by me! This one is 35 minutes of raw engineering. We had to hire an outside 3-D artist to bring it to life. Good stuff. youtu.be/rTWD8wRn4H8?...

Very curious to learn how this flight came so close to disaster. Those light poles are waaay below the glide path.

Do you have a bone to pick about some aspect of the DCA mid-air? ATC working conditions, DCA traffic, army aviation safety culture, whatever it may be—please send me any links about it that you think I should read before I put pen to paper for my draft article, and I'll add them to the stack.
Someone from China FOIA requested the NTSB for any documents related to their participation in the investigation into the 2022 crash of China Eastern Airlines flight 5735, widely speculated to be a case of pilot suicide. The documents are mostly boilerplate but we did get an FDR data plot:
