I’m churning between the hopeful/skeptical divide, thinking about the intersection of cybersecurity and AI. What I see as very prevalent Security/Privacy Theater that most institutions undertake as a racket, about to become a very busy landscape. Both in slop, but more frighteningly, in exploitation

Relaxing in my grown-ass-man-vehicle-fort overlooking the Pacific Ocean, snugging in my sleeping bag with my adventure pup at my side, and a new book. This is living the dream; right?
I like these kinds of tests, a sort of real world 'state of the thing', that thing in this case being the stack that is atproto outside of bsky. I'm curious if anyone else has made similar recent attempts with maybe different constraints.

What if we could use Bluesky without touching any Bluesky servers? What about if we avoided touching their code, entirely?

I was thinking about how the Neo shows just how neutered iPadOS and iOS are on simply a technical level, and Apple is gatekeeping that ability to align with capital, not innovation.
All I'm learning from the MacBook Neo is that Apple could be shipping an iPhone that turns into a Mac when you plug it into a monitor, they just choose not to so you buy more of their things
Adventure Cycling released the Golden Gravel GPS maps today! The route stretches 3,805 miles (6,124 km) from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean. Tentatively planning to do this west bound starting around the 4th of July (in about 16 weeks).

We are aware of recent reports regarding targeted phishing attacks that have resulted in account takeovers of some Signal users, including government officials and journalists. We take this very seriously. 1/7
Walgreens losing 90% of their valuation in under 10 years wasn't enough, so they came with an innovative way to keep remaining customers out of their stores.
Surveillance Capitalism serves the Surveillance State. Demand data protections from your Govt officials. That includes the ill-conceived notions of "protecting our children" initiatives, like Chat Control in the EU, and Age Verification laws.
CBP Tapped Into the Online Advertising Ecosystem To Track Peoples’ Movements
An internal DHS document obtained by 404 Media shows for the first time CBP used location data sourced from the online advertising industry to track phone locations. ICE has bought access to similar t...

Riding season is upon us, dialing in the ride and fit. I need to look into finding a better dog rack for the bike. I’m sure I’ll have to get something custom, but I bet I could drop 5+ lbs.
I want to expand on this thread, because I think it is fruitful. @proton.me I think there is a need to understand the systemic problem, that our privacy policies and lack of transparency creates.
There is a need of extrapolating why open source is so important in cryptography, into areas of educating on its implementation and usage. Instead we keep making black boxes.
There is also a level of radical transparency that should be involved here. Many of the concepts and processes in the privacy and security need to be spelled out specifically. The space has a weird “secrecy cloak” that permeates everything.
This. If they told users that using a traditional payment method jeopardized anonymity in the sign up process, they may have not had data to hand over, and their peepees wouldn't have been so hurt by someone reporting on it. They could've addressed that. But instead we get the "fake news" defense.

Kind of makes them calling 404 out for a misleading or clickbaity headline a bit disingenuous, doesn't it?
New from 404 Media: Proton Mail, the privacy-focused email service, gave authorities data that let the FBI unmask an anonymous 'Stop Cop City' protester. It was payment data linked to the anonymous email account. From that, FBI ID'd them, then tracked their movements www.404media.co/proton-mail-...

This is Rowdy. He doesn't look very amused with the boarding facilities shenanigans but, he does look awfully cute.
The most securist surveillance company hired a third party cyber security firm to help them out with their 100% secure system that has totally never ever been hacked.
I think there is a cognitive error here; like we need to understand the difference between when someone defines something as an 'echo chambers' , or 'filter bubble' and when someone defines it as 'safe spaces', 'content management', or "content moderation".
These echo chambers are made by recommendation algorithms, by social connection (and rupture), by our own biases, and by deliberate propaganda machines. They seem impenetrable.
Q: #Selfhosting: Given my environment: MacOS (M4-mini), #Podman-Desktop, and #Tailscale. I'm trying to allow access to my selfhosted containerized resources, and have the ability to manage them thru Tailscale network, (so I can skip a lot of the complexities of securing them otherwise). 🧵

Goodbye & Good Riddance; I've been working through cancelling subscriptions, and getting alternatives set up. I have already found a few that I had forgotten about, still searching... I've been on budget autopilot for far too long.
"It's not that bicycling is so important, it is that everything else is equally unimportant." -Bruce "Ole" Ohlson of California, USA, after racking up 84,500 loaded touring miles (136,000 km).
#booksky recommend: Is there a good scifi, *punk book/series that revolves around bicycles, in a bit more then a passing way?
Mushroom hunting. I’m not particularly good at IDing mushrooms. I basically know Chanterelles, Morels, and Lions Mane. I should try to ID and memorize at least one new type every time I go out as a personal goal.
What kind of print did I find? The lack of nail imprints makes me think a feline of some sort…
We re-homed this guy, Rowdy, back in April, on my birthday. He has come a long way, although still reactive, and a bit of a pill at times. The couple who we re-homed him from said he wasn’t a lap dog…
Just doing Jeep stuff. I’ve got about a dozen nights in the new AluCab MOD Camper. It’s working out really well. I’m starting to curate some ideas on how to build the inside out for my needs.
It was another bike across the USA kind of summer, this time north to south on the GDMBR border to border, with my partner, and our dog Rowdy.
When I was younger, I definitely thought for a hot moment that the “Oxford Comma” implied that there were other commas and grammar rules named by their universities.

Data nerds that are dog parents: What are you using as an activity tracker? Fi, Whistle? - I’d prefer to not have another subscription, and I don’t need active tracking, I just want to see how much play/work they are doing in the days adventure.
