Respiratory syncytial virus #RSV is the leading cause of acute lower respiratory tract infections in children <2 years. It can also severely affect adults. Since the introduction of a prophylactic mAbs treatment in Spain, resistant #RSV lineages have been reported.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome #ARDS is a critical condition characterized by respiratory failure, an acute inflammatory response, and the development of non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema. Sepsis is one of the leading causes of #ARDS and has a high mortality ICUs.

Our findings highlight a set of proteins involved in immune regulation and tissue remodelling, which may shed light on the mechanisms driving long-term lung sequelae.

In this study, we explored whether plasma protein levels measured six months after ICU discharge could serve as biomarkers of interstitial lung disease (ILD) in patients who survived a severe COVID-19.

During the event, I presented our work titled: “Interstitial lung disease protein biomarkers in post-COVID patients.”

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Jornadas de Personal Investigador Joven CIBERES–CIBERBBN 2025, an inspiring meeting that brought together young researchers from across Spain to exchange ideas, projects, and challenges in biomedical research.
