I am a high school teacher. Earnest posting (at the moment it’s mostly grief-posting) until the end. Profile pic is my mom. (she/they)

Practicing grief antics on this beautiful fall morning.
Grey Wolfe was here.
As we inch toward the one-year mark of my mom's death, I feel each day a little more undone. Unraveling. Breaking apart. Chaotic drift. Collapse. This little book, @benehrenreich.bsky.social, is a balm, a hammock, a swaddling blanket, a hand, gently squeezing mine & holding me fast. Thank you.

I left several copies of this little zine I made in my classroom at the start of the year. They are all gone now and no one has said anything but I am pleased.
Pretty OK with this being the last time I posted about my mom before her unexpected death.
My mom dancing to the Jimmy Cliff record in our living room (in front of a big window!) is one my core my-parents-are-so-embarrassing memories.
Happy birthday, mom. My grief is a hurricane. Your memory is the quiet eye at its center.
My 87-year-old mom over dinner on Friday: "I have been thinking a lot about the guillotine lately."
Rolling into my teaching job in a resource-starved public school and sending love and solidarity to all the other educators out there doing the same. We keep trying & struggling under impossible conditions.

It’s my mom’s birthday this week & I spent a chunk of the weekend reading birthday letters I wrote her over the years, which she kept & I found tucked into her journals, books, & elsewhere. When I wrote them, I had no idea what a comfort they would be to me someday, in her absence.
From the birthday letter I wrote my mom in 2017.
Postcard from a 9th-grade public school classroom: vibes have shifted on “AI” since last year. Generally, kids seem way way way more critical and suspicious Love to see it
And it goes without saying: I desperately miss my mom.
She was a soft thing.

We need more people's tribunals!
#tdih 1967 2,000+ attended People’s Tribunal (because courts & white press didn't pursue justice) on police killing of 3 young Black men at Algiers Motel in Detroit. Among jurors were novelist J. O. Killens & Rosa Parks who found the officers guilty of murder. www.zinnedproject.org/news/tdih/de...
I was deactivated when the plums came in this year, but rest assured, many pounds of free plums and propaganda were dispensed from my sidewalk.
Free plums and propaganda.
Make sure to always leave propaganda in your pockets, people. (From @mollycrabapple.bsky.social’s Here Where We Live Is Our Country)
Summer goals: reading, writing, restoration, exploration, & a 90% decrease in my phone/computer use. That means breaking my Bluesky habit & doing more of my grieving offline. Gonna deactivate on Monday, my last day of work. I anticipate coming back in the fall. 💛
Well my student teacher was amazing — & yesterday was our last day with kids. He’ll keep all the sweet notes, but I took pics because I am big sap.
First time in my quarter century of teaching, I am going to host a student teacher. Feeling like it is finally time, lol
My mom’s voice wakes me at 2am to say, “Exactly this precious, Urs. Every single life.” I know, mom, I know.
