To counter the claim that diversity hires were endemic, here's an example. A year after I was hired at my institution (an R1 state flagship), I was one of two (2) Latine assistant professors on the entire campus. I alone represented 50% of Latine assistant profs. How could this be DEI run amok?

I said something very similar in my talk yesterday. Even before this moment, lots of ostensibly liberal academics believed that "diversity hires" were both endemic (not true) and less qualified (also a lie). The current moment is going to amp this up 1000%.
