The effective federal corporate income tax rate: 1950: 50% 1990: 25% 2020: 13% Stop asking "but how we will pay for it?" Restore the corporate tax rate. That is how we will pay for it.

Corporate spending on elections has already topped $500 million this year. That's one third of the $1.58 billion in total that corporations have spent since Citizens United in 2010. Hawaii and Montana both have plans to neutralize this disastrous SCOTUS ruling. Other states must get on board.

This is a story about the President and several of his hand-picked appointees all committing crimes and blatantly lying to the public while stealing public funds and abusing the criminal justice system, but the NYTimes describes the situation like they're recapping a soap opera.

Another example of the problem with the fixation with Trump’s putative emotions: here a story about the Trump administration’s corruption, incompetence, and venality is framed as one about Trump’s “wrath.” www.nytimes.com/2026/08/01/u...

Ms. Rachel expresses support for Abdul El-Sayed, Cori Bush, Justin Pearson, Jarrett Keohokalole, Peggy Flanagan, Becca Balint, William Lawrence, Elijah Manley, Troy Jackson, Donavan McKinney, Oliver Larkin, and Angie Nixon. "These are some folks I believe care about all kids."

I joined The Intercept to talk about the increasing violence of mass deportation and the political agenda that has led ICE to maximize arrests and minimize accountability at the expense of public safety, core democratic values & the livelihood of immigrants.

NEW POD: Trump built a national police force to go after immigrants. Now, with a budget bigger than most militaries around the world, it’s bringing the war on the southern border home to roost. w/ @naureenshah.bsky.social & @naynagupta.bsky.social podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

Uber Eats and DoorDash hid tip buttons and set default tips below 10%. As a result, tips for delivery workers fell 79%.  In January, we made these corporations change their apps — and in the past six months, we've put $104 million back in delivery workers' pockets.  This is only the beginning.

This is a good reminder that some "voluntary" departures people sign while detained by ICE are the product of coercion. The worst incidents I've heard of over the years involve agents grabbing a person's hands and forcing them to sign a piece of paper they can't read; it's a "voluntary" removal.

Senator Patty Murray@murray.senate.gov · last wk.

ICE agents threatened to beat up a Seattle small business owner, married to a citizen, with NO criminal record unless he signed a "voluntary" departure. I'm told there were cameras in the room. I'm demanding any video and that Eduardo be brought home immediately.

NEW — Jamie Raskin, top Democrat on House Judiciary, joins rising calls: “These are profoundly disturbing allegations from Congressman Miller’s ex-wife and another knowledgeable woman speaking from personal experience. If proven true, he should resign immediately from Congress or be expelled."

First Draft: Why Is This Alleged Abuser Still in Congress?

Republican Max Miller, a top Trump ally, faces horrific allegations of domestic abuse and yet no condemnation from his GOP colleagues. Plus, Trump asks his pals on the Supreme Court for another favor.

if you’re an immigrant and unemployed, you’re a freeloader, but if you’re gainfully employed, you’re stealing someone’s job. They just don’t want these people to exist except as targets for their hatred one way or the other bsky.app/profile/heba...

My Haitian friend was just fired from his job. "They said I don't have a legal status now." This is likely happening to hundreds of thousands of people across this country today. Sick.

It is genuinely bizarre that we’ve become acclimatized to right wingers throwing a tantrum every time a black person (particularly a black woman) is cast in something, but are also supposed to pretend that this is not racism but related to some other substantive concern.
