Discovering Manchester’s Grace Metalious! While the author and her controversial novel “Peyton Place” are often associated with Gilmanton, NH - Metalious’s Manchester background heavily shaped her writing and the book that would become a global best-seller.

Kids, Climate, and a Woolly Mammoth Mystery! Huge Congrats to NH author Emilie Christie Burack on the release of her delightful middle-grade book, “Dominic Bean and the Mammoth Melt.” (Emilie’s crowded launch event at Gibson’s last week included mammoth cookies - good idea!) 1/2

Did you know NH has a terrific World War II museum? The Wright Museum in Wolfeboro is dedicated to honoring “the exceptional contributions on the home front and the battlefields made by World War II-era Americans.” 1/5

Quick visit to NHPR! A few weeks ago, I recorded some introductions for NHPR’s rebroadcast of my NHPBS interview in June with filmmaker Ken Burns. I love collaborating with my former colleagues at NHPR…which is, as ever, NH’s best source for news and information. 1/2

Emerson and Thoreau spoke here…and so have I! Earlier this month, I presented at the Monadnock Summer Lyceum (called the Peterborough Lyceum in Emerson/Thoreau’s day). We had a full house, and an eloquent introduction from author and former longtime editor-in-chief of @yankee-magazine Mel Allen.

I had a blast at Concord’s Wine on Main recently, at a book-themed wine event focussed on my novel, “The Shopkeeper of Alsace.” The evening included an interview by Jocelyn Winn from The Writing Gallery and Alsatian wines served by shop owner and wine connoisseur Emma Stetson. 1/3

A huge highlight of my May trip to France: presenting "The Shopkeeper of Alsace" in Strasbourg, in French, before the group "Alsace-Etats-Unis." Four descendants of the family at the heart of the novel were in the audience; a deeply satisfying, full-circle moment that brought me to tears. 1/2

Meet me at the Seacoast Lit Fest in Portsmouth 📅 6/11/26-6/14/26 ! I’ll be interviewing Ben Mezrich, about his new book “Checkmate”. Several of Ben’s earlier books became major films, and this latest one reads like a box-office hit! 1/2

When Sandra Brown calls it one of the best WWII novels she's ever read — you stop and take notice. That's the review my novel The Shopkeeper of Alsace received on Amazon recently. I'm still sitting with it. 1/5

Encounter with a Neanderthal in France! We made a bicycle trip to Les Eyzies, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which calls itself "The Prehistory Capital of the World." Early humans lived in these caves and cliffs thousands of years ago. The statue overlooking the town is titled "Primitive Man." 1/3

French Firefighters visit Boston! For more than sixty years, Boston and Strasbourg, France, have been “Sister Cities.” This long friendship brings people of different cultures, experiences and perspectives together - a worthy goal, I think…and lots of fun, too! 1/4

I had lunch recently with the legendary Mary Ann Esposito and her publisher, Deidre Randall! Mary Ann has written fourteen cookbooks, she's a renowned educator and chef, and star of the longest-running cooking show on television - PBS ’s "Ciao Italia." Find Ciao Italia at champ.ly/g_2UWjpa
