Russia is NOT winning the war. They’ve barely moved over the 3 years. When Trump says Ukraine has no cards, he doesn’t understand the will of the people to retain sovereignty and defeat a foreign invader. Look at US in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq. They didn’t have cards either…

Watching UK news coverage over the last 24 hours, one would think Farage's Reform party had taken over the Conservatives as the 2nd largest party in local government. In reality, Reform are 5th, coming some distance behind the Greens. Lib Dems gained over 160 Councillor seats… 370 total! 💛💛💛

Trump just announced tariffs of 245% on Chinese imports, a dramatic escalation to the ongoing trade war. Might as well make it 1000% at this point as trade is definitely now dead between US and China. This is a childish move that does nothing to improve the global economy, stability or security.

Is Trump creating concentration camps in El Salvador? Trump told the President of El Salvador that he’s gonna need to build about 5 new prisons in El Salvador… because the “homegrown” criminals from US are next. Is that with or without due process?

Economic security and national security are intertwined. By declaring a an ill-considered trade war on allies and adversaries alike, Trump is undermining the delicate balance of trade. I’d like to see UK, EU, Canada, Australia and NZ be more ambitious. Carney, Merz and Macron are leading the way.

Stop trying to explain Trump’s strategy on tariffs. It’s just a power play. Trump is giving himself “cards” so that individuals, oligarchs, companies, states and countries will ‘kiss the ring’ and give some pro quo for tariff relief. Creating a global kleptocracy and system of patronage.

Loved this quote from an economist from JP Morgan: "The stock market cannot be bullied, intimidated, deported, 'primaried' in the next election, or otherwise censored...." So the stock and bond markets are serving as "the adults in the room"! :)

After seeing $6.6 trillion in stock market value wiped out, Trump walked back his erratic tariff policy with a "90-day pause" and implemented 10% global tariffs, 25% auto, and 25% aluminium/ steel... except China. China retaliated from 34% to 84% tariffs and Trump doubled down with 125% tariffs.

Hardest hit markets are the US and Japan (-18%) and the least hit is China (-4%). That’s partly because China is not nearly as reliant upon the US as the US is reliant upon China. China has 1.3B population that doesn’t need to buy US goods. So China has an advantage in a trade war.

Trump does NOT have a mandate to shred our institutions. His margin of victory (pop vote + electoral college) is the third smallest since 1888. (Only JFK in '60 and Nixon in '68 were smaller.) If 238k votes in the blue wall states had been different, he would have lost. 49.8% vs 48.3% NOT a mandate.

Booker: "I confess that I have been imperfect. I confess that I've been inadequate to the moment. I've confess that the Democratic Party has made terrible mistakes that gave a lane to this demagogue. I confess we all must look in the mirror and say 'we will do better.'"
