Kent State Truth Archive Testimonial In this Kent State Truth Archive Testimonial, Nancy Rodgers recounts her participation at Kent State University in the days leading up and following the May 4, 1970 Kent State massacre. As a concerned Kent State University faculty member on May 4th, Rodgers observed, monitored and attempted to keep the peace on campus during U.S. military maneuvers. After the massacre, Rodgers co-founded the Kent State Legal Defense Fund organized to support and advocate for the ‘Kent 25’ group of students and a professor indicted for ‘causing’ the massacre. In this Kent State Truth Archive Testimonial, Ann Wettrich shares: “the next thing I remember is getting the phone ringing and getting a call from my Aunt Ginny, who was concerned about my safety and relieved to hear that I was all right. But then also expressing her feelings, saying, well, the National Guard should have shot all the students who were protesting, not imagining that I would be one of them. And then I told her, well, then they should have shot me would that have made you happy, and just kind of slamming down the phone at that point. But just characterizing the huge shift in culture that was taking place across families and generations. In 1970, two merchant marines, Al Glatkowski and Clyde McKay, successfully commandeered the SS Columbia Eagle carrying nearly 5,000 500 and 750 pound napalm bombs, safely evacuated the crew and sailed the ship to Cambodia, where it was surrendered. This act was done in opposition to the genocide occurring in Vietnam. Al Glatkowski joins Clearing the FOG for this first installment in which he describes what led him to take the action and how it was conducted, as well as the aftermath. In this time of total disregard of international law by the United States and as more members of the military question their involvement in what the US is doing, we remember the bravery and resolve of Al and Clyde.
