If anything, he is just as abhorrent when it comes to controlling irregular migration. It is because it shows that an alternative is possible wrt pathways to legal immigration.

This is exactly the argument of Schäuble etc in the Greek crisis. A confederation becomes a hybrid regime if 1. politicization happens nationally 2. national leaders sell their electorates far-right (or far-left) policies separately 3. they gang up on alternatives as threats. A race to the bottom.
Bogdan Buduroiu@buduroiu.com · 2d agoHow is this a far-right reading? The 22-signatory letter includes liberal and centrist governments. To me, this is more a split on governments that sold their electorate a returns-and-deterrence policy, and Spain's regularisation-plus-court-ruling combination that threatens that.
It's the Greek crisis all over again. If you try to have progressive or even moderate policies within the EU, the far right and the authoritarian conservatives of the EPP will try to turn the EU into a Vienna Congress against you. What if the EU has become a transnational hybrid regime?

Instead, the EPP & far-right allies use this manufactured crisis whose price was paid by real lives to attack Spain's different stance to migration.

Swedish migration minister Forssell (M/EPP) now says he believes that #Ceuta was a hybrid attack by external actors, but still blames the Spanish government for what happened. This is getting ridiculous.

Dessa spelar rakt i händerna på Marocko och de eventuella andra externa aktörer som legat bakom krisen i Ceuta. (Efter att jag skrev detta såg jag att Forssell svarar på det.)
