I always roll my eyes at talk of smaller city teams playing in the World Series being a problem. I am not a financial shareholder in baseball. I am a fan of theatrics and narratives. When Milwaukee won the 1957 World Series Wisconsinites embraced the small “Bushville” city team beating the Yankees.

THIS SUNDAY! 6:30pm! I am performing a 20 minute set at the Halloween-themed BadyHouse Storytelling Concert! With Jennifer Philips and Larry Decker! Hosted by Robin Bady! See you at the show!

THIS SATURDAY! 5pm! I am performing on Relationshit at QED! With Robin Bady and Dustin D’Addato! Hosted by Lynn Bixenspan and Morgan Pielli! See you at the show!

I’ve heard that if you see a Staten Island Ferry in the East River it’s a crew in training sailing it. This one was sailing north. Picture taken from the East River Esplanade in Manhattan facing Roosevelt Island and Queens.

Oh the joy of Banjo the Dog designating you as the ball thrower.

Wonderful to perform last night on Top Shelf Stories at Upright Citizens Brigade! Hosted by Julia Whitehouse! On a great bill with Henry Suarez, Chris James, and John Trowbridge!

In 1997 C-SPAN aired a school board meeting from Minnesota about if Goosebumps books should be banned. Single parent William Garrison defended the books: “If they're taken off the shelves then I'm afraid she's gonna lose interest to read and is gonna end up like me without a decent job.”

I felt thankful this morning realizing that for the better part of two decades if I’ve needed to kill some time before an East Village appointment there’s always browsing the plays section at The Strand.

My Horror Movie Month 2026 watches so far.

Happy to say I’m booked and busy the next few weeks. See you at the shows.

In the window of Philadelphia’s National Museum of American Jewish History. Just in time for the Eagles 9:30am game today in London.

My first time back at Philly’s 30th Street Station since the cleaning and restoration of the majestic coffered ceiling. I’m always happy to see and to utilize the publicly available, centrally located seating here. Philly doesn’t make you cram into a waiting room off to the side of the station.

Good new school sight in Jersey City (Oonee free bike parking). Bad new school sight in Jersey City (“Sleeping” delivery robot in front of City Hall).

A WEEK FROM TONIGHT! 7:30pm! I will be performing on Top Shelf Stories hosted by Julia Whitehouse at the Upright Citizens Brigade’s upstairs theatre at 242 East 14th Street! $10 in advance. $15 day of the show. This will be the first time I’ve ever been on a booked UCB show! See you at the show!

The food cart outside Columbia University Hospital is called Emergency Gyro.

The excellent podcast The Fastest Girl in Somalia about Samia Yusuf Omar focuses on someone who finished 8th of 8 at the Olympics rather than a champion. The type of story I want more of. How did they get to that Olympic spot in the first place? What happened after? All five episodes are now online.

HOMETOWN FOLKS! Please mark Weds January 27th, 2027 on your calendar because I will be performing an updated version of my one-man show Nazis and Me at MC Live Arts in Silver Spring, Maryland. It will be my first performance in The DMV in over five years. A FREE community event. See you at the show!

In the crowd today for Good Time Charlie, a new play written by and starring Ryan Haddad, at The Public Theater. A biographical and autobiographical story about having wisdom, passion, and self-discovery passed down to you. And using all that to find meaning in a life in the arts.

In the crowd last night for ANON at MCC Theatre, written by Anne Washburn, directed by Anne Kauffman. This simple Texas-set story with 5 characters set just 2 years ago reflected a lot of where we are now. Another work of Jared Mezzocchi production design that captures the screen sickness of today.

Last night at The Astoria Bookshop Storytelling Show we heard about an LSD coincidence, protecting mom from online scams, the accidental killing of a deer, adopting a hell cat, best friend/significant other balance, paying cheating forward, making nice with a parent before they die. Next show 11/5.

Wonderful to perform on this excellent lineup at The Story Collider live show in Brooklyn on Tuesday night! Thanks to everyone at Story Collider, particularly Gastor Almonte for story coaching me. I hope you get to hear what I performed on The Story Collider podcast soon! (Photo by Gordon Balkcom)

Happy 30th anniversary of the USA release of Nintendo 64! I still have the promotional VHS hyping up its release.

I perform on Story Collider TOMORROW NIGHT at 7pm! With this wonderful lineup! At Pete’s Candy Store in Brooklyn! 709 Lorimer Street! FREE! See you at the show!

I turn 41 today. “If you’re still making art after 40 there’s probably something very wrong with you. You missed the turnoff to a normal life, and now you’re just barrelling blind into the night, down that endless pitch black highway alone. But the world is starving for your wrongness” -Darby Hudson

Rachel Szor and Yuval Abraham after today’s New York Film Festival North American premiere of their documentary NAZA. A telling of the massive amount of civilian killings by the Israel Defense Forces from those who carried them out. An essential movie that will be streaming for free in a few weeks.

Phoebe Bridgers gives voice to my emotional motion sickness. These days the past is looking brighter all the time. But with her slinging that guitar and singing onstage tonight for a few hours it felt like the end of wanting. And as has been widely reported, yes, a black hole opened in the kitchen.

A WEEK FROM TONIGHT is the October 2026 Astoria Bookshop Storytelling Show! RSVP email to david@dtlawson.com if you want to show up, throw your name in the bucket, and perform a true, no theme, 5 min story about something that happened to you! Free! See you at the show!

I always like passing by The World’s Fair Tattoo Shop here in Astoria and seeing these two actual Shea Stadium seats. They are plastic ones from 1980 when Shea replaced their wooden seats. Meaning these two seats saw five MLB playoff runs. Who will make future tattoo parlor memories this fall?

A WEEK FROM TONIGHT! I am performing on Story Collider at Pete’s Candy Store in Brooklyn! 7pm show! Awesome lineup! See you there!
