While admirable to think this might happen, I regret to inform you that getting anime fans to engage with anything outside anime, including other good anime that just happens to be old, is literally impossible.
Mamylon@mamylon.bsky.social · 6d agoThis post has it backwards, IMO. The Criterion crowd doesn’t really need to be “introduced” to very famous genre work, and Criterion has showcased anime before. More exciting is the possibility that this will draw anime fans to Criterion and help introduce them to the wider world of film!
all cinema is product and should be engaged with on that level. “Art” is a bourgeois notion meant to separate intellectuals from the working class.
