This week we have a full moon - the "Buck Moon"! 🦌 Every full moon has a traditional name, usually tied to seasonal change - July's is called the "Buck Moon", because the antlers of male deer (aka bucks) are fully grown at this time.

Tonight we have a full moon - the "Strawberry Moon"! 🍓 June's traditional full moon name is called the "Strawberry Moon", because of the relatively short season for harvesting strawberries in the north-eastern US. In other countries, it's known as the Rose Moon or Honey Moon. 🌹🍯

It's okay to make mistakes. We all do! 💚🐾 When someone makes a mistake while spelling, try NOT to jump in. Instead, watch to see if they detect the mistake on their own. This way learning readers do not feel like they're being set up to fail - ensuring the achievability of their reading goals!

If they don’t stop to correct the mistake, ask a question like "Does that make sense?" or "Does that sound right?" By asking these questions you are helping them to self-correct as they read. Encourage them to reread the line, look for clues within a word, or think about what would make sense in the sentence. Strong readers constantly check for understanding as they read. This week's full moon is the "Flower Moon"! 🌼🌕 Every full moon has a traditional name, usually tied to seasonal change - May's is called the "Flower Moon" because of the springtime flowers blooming. The moon will look fullest on May 1, but will still appear nearly full the days before and after.

April 17 is National Haiku Day! Haiku is an ancient form of Japanese poetry, consisting of three lines of five, then seven, then five syllables (though some consider this a westernization of the art form). Haikus are concise by design, and usually focus on the beauty of nature.🍃 Know any good ones?
