Mallory nodded her agreement though she wasn't sure how she was going to keep her focus with the image of Charlotte and Emerson still so fresh in her mind. An image she wasn't sure would ever leave her and that left her with a torrent of complex emotions she didn't know what to do with. She just hoped at the very least they were doing okay all alone in that big house.

In Magaelia: The nobility wear a lot of rich colours, women in long modest dresses & men in fancy suits. Again masks for men are big signifies of station & wealth. Charlotte didn’t intend to be vulnerable but she’s let Mallory into her life and continues to find herself caught off guard. #WIPSnip from Finding Charlie

She approached Charlotte, fingers reaching out to brush the series of raised scars on her shoulder. "What happened here?" Mallory asked ever so softly.
Charlotte tensed. Normally the scar remained covered but she'd only donned
a tank top and sweatpants after her shower. It had been exposed when she was in her swimsuit and she'd felt the other woman's gaze inspecting it then but she hadn't said anything. "Uh, I was clumsy." She laughed but even she could tell it held no humour. "I fell into a glass cabinet."
"And this?" Her hand cupped her cheek, thumb running across the little scar
beneath her eye.
She froze. She'd worn concealer to the pool with a good setting spray but washed the makeup off in the shower when she got home and hadn't thought to reapply any afterwards intending to spend the rest of the day in. "It's nothing, it was my fault, it-i.." she stumbled to find the right words.
"You didn't have this scar when Emerson was born."
Charlotte lowered her head. Tears burning behind her eyes. Mallory's hand remained on her cheek, her other hand came up to rest on her shoulder. They were so close together, Charlotte could feel the warmth radiating between them. She had never intended for Mallory to see that scar, she had hoped she'd never find out.

"I have given myself over Countess Battoria more completely than you could imagine. She stripped away my ability to resist her, and then she took every last shred of innocence I had. You've kissed her. Can you see the distance? There is so much further to fall. And even if you were to fall that far, where would you be? You would be on my level. You would be my equal. "Hey Charlie," Ollie greeted as she slipped into the lane with her, the pool rather busy at this hour. They'd run into each other a few times and Ollie had helped Charlotte build a set to ease her back into things. The old friends fell into a comfortable rhythm following each other around the lane as they completed their sets. "You're starting to be able to keep up with me again," Ollie panted as they took a short water break.
"Not even close," Charlotte said but she couldn't help the grin that overtook her.
"I was thinking you should come out to lunch with me and the missus one of these days," Ollie said as they kicked out on their kick boards to cool down.
"You can bring that gorgeous doting lesbian friend of yours too if you'd like."
Charlotte flushed though she was sure she was already red from all the exercise. "Uh sure, Mallory's pretty busy at the moment though so I'm not sure if she'd be able to but Ill ask."
"Not so busy she cant come and watch her friend swim while reading to her baby."

Oseria, unlike Magaelia where Amalia grew up, does not dampen magic. Unfortunately, Amalia is very sensitive to magic for *reasons* and any use of it, her own or others, makes her quite sick… #WIPsnips “bench” from The Misery of Daughters

Amalia found a bench to rest on. The sky had turned orange and the sun had
disappeared beyond the horizon. She dropped her head into her hands, a tension headache causing a sharp stabbing pain behind her eyes. Nausea curdled her stomach. She'd over done it. With no white smoke burning in the streets, the whole festival pulsated with magic and she could feel it prickling along her skin and pulling at her scars.

Amalia is not though she is cautious but it takes a lot to make her uneasy. Nadya has travelled far & wide sharing stories, shes heard things that would give most chills. A well known superstition: seeing a gleen means you or someone close to you will die. - The Misery of Daughters #QueerPrompts

The glean grew bolder.
A cool breeze swept in from a cracked window. The forest line leant forward;
the shadows reaching for the manor—for Amalia. Silver eyes shined from the darkness. They watched her and she watched back.
Gleans could scent death before the body let its last breath.
This was the first time the creature had come so close.
There are no dead here. Amalia mouthed the words not wishing to frighten her
daughter any further. There is no one here for your taking. Nor will there be.
The trees stood tall, the shadows receded, and those silver eyes turned away.
The creature's tail sliced the night as it was consumed back into the forest.

Rangers Apprentice and Eragon inspired me to write a fantasy short story for school with a girl lead because lil me was like where are the girls with swords and dragons??? The hunger games and a book called Ashes lead me to try my hand at a dystopian novel! I was around 10-11 and never looked back!
