Cornish born wanderer and coffee lover. I like doing stuff. Paralian, one who lives by the sea. Oss rider & guardian of Alargh Du.
By-The-Wind-Sailors Marazion was awash with thousands of Wind Sailors this afternoon, these Hydrozoa are free floating animals that live out to sea in vast numbers. They primarily feed on plankton and use nematocyst toxin to catch their prey, so do wash your hands afterwards if you pick them up.
Lughnasadh/Lammas greetings from the first harvest fields of Marazion. A time to honour the gifts of the land, and the cycle of life, death & rebirth. #cornwall
St John’s Eve Torchlit Procession in Penzance last night. This marks the start of the week long Golowan festival here in West Cornwall.
Sancreed Midsummer Beacon Lighting. The annual midsummer solstice fire at Sancreed in West Cornwall, and the last in a series of events celebrating the 40th anniversary of Cornwall Heritage Trust.
One of 5 hedgehog hoglets born in Porthleven Harbour Hedgie Rescue. Named "Rambler" weighs 124g. Now in outside rehabilitation with Mum to be released back into the wild. Thankful to all small wildlife charities giving nature a helping hand. #nature #wildlife #photography #kernow #Cornwall
The evening light & colour across our local beach is amazing this week. West Cornwall has been spectacular this May. #cornwall
The Hal-an-tow. The mystery play is performed during Helston’s Flora Day, the pageant starts at St John's Bridge and is performed at seven locations around the town. It was an absolute joy to follow it around this morning.
The magnificent Penzance May Horns last night in West Cornwall. The annual gathering of the community to chase the devil of winter away and welcome the coming of summer.🌞
Beltane blessings with Pensans Morris who danced the sun up & crowned their May Queen in Penzance this morning. A joyous affair to start the merry month of May.🌞
Our beautiful starlings are super busy with babies to feed, they run around our feet not in the slightest bit bothered.
We’ve been having regular visits this week from a leucistic magpie, my partner finally managed to get a phone pic of it from the kitchen this morning. The other magpies have been tolerating it so far, but not fully accepting as it’s different. At least it can feed here with all the other birds.
The boy hedgehogs have been at it again, although it seems to result in one being used as a football. The main culprit is fluffy pants who’s living his best thug life!
The Lady of Flowers during yesterday’s Gorsedh Kernow proclamation ceremony in Marazion, Cornwall.
The proclamation ceremony of Gorsedh Kernow took place in Marazion yesterday, ahead of the main cultural event later on this year. This is a tremendous honour for Marazion to host the bard’s cultural celebration again, the last time it was held here was I believe 30 years ago.
My dad's back on the case with his weird woodcarvings. I'm going to add a new batch of things to his shop tomorrow... 👁️ wellswoodcarving.bigcartel.com
Carn Euny Holy Well. One of my favourite places and particularly so in the peak of spring with its primula adorned walls. It’s slightly off the beaten track so remains less cluttered compared to the other more popular holy wells.
Offerings hanging at the cloutie tree at Sancreed Holy Well in West Cornwall.

The thrift has started flowering in Cornwall, it won’t be long before huge clumps of it explode into bloom all around the coastline.
Hedgehog 3 has entered the chat… First in a series of captures from last night where a third hedgehog started shoving one of two hedgehogs by the feeding station. We think possibly over the third (female) hedgehog rather than the food.
Beachcombing walk and a lovely (if modern) red seaglass find in the shallow water just before the tide turned.
The hedgehogs 🦔 are back visiting our garden again, this one is Patch who visits nightly to feed in our hog feeding station. Hopefully as it warms up more will return again.
