Enjoying my Saturday by sitting and listening to John Prine and crying
I think some Brits like to complain about Americans the way they do because we distracted the rest of the world from their awfulness with our awfulness and they’re hoping no one will remember they’re a primary world history supervillain themselves.
Promising Young Woman is NOT the empowering movie some people think it is, please for the love of god do not bring that pile of shit back into the discourse. That is not the story/media we need rn.
Do I tell the old man on the bus that he’s on the phone with a scammer
I got myself an iced London fog and an almond croissant from my favorite bakery as a rare treat…it was $15
Seeing a lot of cis men calling feminist abolitionists rape-supporters or predators rn for reminding people that saying rapists should rot in jail forever AND believing in prison abolition are conflicting ideals.
The fax machine at work that mostly just receives spam these days is now receiving AI generated ads
Most people who call themselves abolitionists don’t actually understand what that means and don’t actually believe in abolition.
They’re not selling malted milk powder in grocery stores like they used to
I literally only learned about it a week ago because my partner told me it was on a client’s do not play list at their wedding and he had to look it up
This kind of take made a Rolling Stone writer so mad they wrote a whole piece about it.
I’m seeing 40 year old women make 2016 nostalgia content and I’m like calm down, you were 30, you are not nostalgic for the youth culture of 2016.
I mean if they’re doing that with the timeline, just make them Irish living in Belfast
In book news, someone explain this to me. If Gerwig is setting The Magician's Nephew in the 1950s (sigh), The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe will then be set in 1995, so... what's the driver to have the kids go to the countryside? Doesn't this just mess with the fundamental DNA of the series?
Just did the math and I’ve worked in 17 different positions with 12 different employers over the past 13 years lmao
Since when does the term “third space” refer to ANY area where public interaction occurs? I thought a key point of a third space was that you don’t have to spend any money to be there and socialize. But now I’m seeing bars, cafes, museums, and such referred to as third spaces.
I’m pretty sure post-9/11 culture is what made me conscious of racism as a child, but ok
But that feeling of a shared bond among all Americans in the early weeks after the attack is something I’m so glad I got to experience. Because it’s the thing that I think we’re missing the most today.
I was 5 during 9/11 and nowhere near that part of the country, so I really don’t remember the day/attack itself. I think I didn’t go to school that day. I DO, however, remember the political/cultural fallout. And I would end up not stepping foot on a plane until I was 9 because of it.
This is what happens when you boil purple potatoes with baking soda
There should be an express line at the ice cream shop for people who know exactly what they want and don’t need samples (me)
Ok so what’s up with this, why is west coast so represented when I’ve only been out west twice in my life. Also Alaska?! I have a pretty typical white Chicago suburbs accent filtered thru past generations of STRONG Chicago and Yooper accents
Korra was the liberal/centrist Avatar and I’m kinda tired of ppl saying it was a show pushing centrist propaganda, rather than it being about how liberal capitalism and dedication to the status quo will only lead to the world’s downfall and spiritual decay.
Every recruiter that reaches out to me is like “hey do you want to do evil for the evil company?” or “hi do you want this incredibly short contract that pays nothing and has no benefits but requires everything from you?”
I got grandfathered into a yoga app in like 2016 before absolutely everything became a subscription model. I paid $4 flat for that shit and you better believe I’ve been using it for the past 10 years.
Some kid on insta is insisting to me that there’s no way “feminazi” was used as a pejorative term pre-Reddit “that sounds like 2016 4chan” ….buddy you realize there are people living right now who experienced the 90s, right? You can also just read about the history of the term on the internet.
Two of Miss Piggy's most iconic co-stars gone, this world is trash.
Simply due to the sheer number of times I’ve seen Rocky Horror (was in a shadowcast for 5 years), Curry is probably the actor I have spent more time watching than almost anyone. And that’s not even counting Clue, Muppets, all his voice acting….honestly insane how much voice acting. RIP king ❤️
