Today we received an email from Durham Uni, signed as below ("Gold Command"). I wish to believe this person's account was hacked, but something tells me it wasn't. Do other Universities also come up with this bizzarreness?
Could anyone please "sponsor" me for the SfN membership? I'd need to know your name and membership ID, please. Thank you!
In the spirit of this post - I've got a book out in India about why overconfidence persists and what it's doing to the world. You might be interested in giving it a read. I've got my first book event today (eep!) - come along if you're in Bangalore. Authors- any advice on what to expect?
Not quite the same thing, but I have been told over and over by other authors that if you think you’re talking too much online about your book, you are probably way under-talking it, and you likely have many followers who still do not know you wrote a book People are busy, you gotta repeat things
A map made in ...Excel. This is the first one for me! @drosostalis.bsky.social I think you are personally responsible for this one 🤣
Science is hard and the progress is slow and often hard to register. So it's nice to have some fast and easy progress elsewhere :P Happy New Year everyone!

These stats may create an impression that all native speakers understand papers well, write well and give good presentations. In my experience, none of this is true, and more often than not native speakers don't write well at all, and it's probably too late for them to learn, as it takes time.
Final plenary by @tatsuya-amano.bsky.social concerning the language barriers in science. The hurdles for non-native English speakers are significant! #ASABWinter2024 Also, our congratulations to Tatsuya for winning the @britishecolsoc.bsky.social Equality and Diversity Champion award this week!
